About this item

  • The Adjustable Replacement Tool Rest Sharpening Jig will allow you to locate all the basic sharpening positions with your bench grinder (grinder not included). The unique miter slide tool holder design allows the jig to be used more or less as a stone, which easily guides your blades, turning tools and chisels. Solid aluminum construction provides you with a smooth sliding, side to side action when sharpening.
  • The sharpening jig works with most power or hand grinders that has or had a tool rest. It is the ideal replacement for the factory tool rest that comes with many bench grinders. The jig offers much more flexibility in terms of what you can get done than with the standard factory tool rest. The plate is offset for short chisels, such as Japanese or western butt chisels.
  • The Sharpening jig can be used with 6" or 8" bench grinders and on many belt sanders/grinders. It quickly and easily mounts directly to the bench in front of the grinder with a track style base and can be readily folded out of the way for freehand grinding if so desired. It can also be completely removed by loosening the large wing knob and sliding the jig from the track base.
  • Another great feature is that the jig can be adjusted forward and backward for just the right angle. Some aftermarket and expensive tool rests don’t move and adjust in this fashion. This can be very limiting your ability to be accurate with your angles. The platform straddles wheels up to 1" wide. The Jig also now includes internal lock washer for even more stability!
  • The unique ratcheting handles lock the adjustable rest solidly in position and can be moved out of the way after locking to keep from accidentally bumping them. You can easily move the tool rest from one grinder wheel to another or quickly remove it from the bench when not needed for grinding. Some assembly required. The bench top wood mounting screws are included.

This is a really well made tool. Please note that Peachtree made an IMPROVED version with internal lock washers, so now it’s as stable as it gets. Please also note the top reviews are from 2018 and they reviewed an older version.

I own a Veritas grinding jig too, so here a comparison.

- The quality of manufacturing is about the same - above and beyond. Peachtree took a slightly different approach in design, so keep in mind it’s possible to adjust it out of level. It’s not a flaw, in fact I actually need this. The finish on the Peachtree is flawless, not a single scratch or burr, sturdy plastic, steel bolts, thick aluminum, no play in any part, came fully assembled.
- Both lock dead tight. Peachtree has an additional level of adjustment, that is a sliding rail, a very nice feature.
- Veritas doesn’t include a flat miter slide, they call it “90 grinding jig” and it’s sold separately. Peachtree includes one. However this included slide requires a square to set up a tool whereas Veritas has a pin that sets it for you. The maximum width that’s accepted by both of these are about 2.5".

All in all it’s a really great jig. I was deterred by those reviews from 2018, but if I wouldn’t - I would probably never bought a Veritas, ‘cos Peachtree gives me about 95% of what Veritas has to offer for half the price.

I think it's a great idea and made well, but when working with a wheel it will always hit at a different angle. I has chisels I wanted to sharpen. I took an old one and touched the wheel and checked the angle, over and over until I got the right angle. Then I sharpened all of them, freehand, they came out good and then I put all of them on my flat sander to get rid of the depression from the wheel, then my diamond stone. It's good for getting the angle once it is set up. I'm going to try my lawn mower blades but it will be trial and error depending on where the tool touches the wheel, a 1/4 inch in any direction will make a big difference in the angle

I was a bit skeptical with some of the reviews about it being unable to tighten. I didn’t find that to be an issue, so I’m assuming the other couple of reviews that say this is now the new updated version. This stand put a dead flat grind on a chisel, but the real reason I bought it was to sharpen jointer blades. After squaring the tool stand to the grinder and screwing it down, it was pretty much ready to use. Sharpening the chisel is super easy with the supplied jig. Just screw it in and line it up with the grinder blade then sharpen it. To sharpen the jointer, I had to rig up a piece of plywood that had a dado on the edge closet to the grinder wheel and clamp it down. Then I can slide the bald back and forth and put a straight grind on it.
