I’ve seen several exam prep books and the ARRL book is by far the best, if you want to actually learn the material as opposed to memorizing the correct answers. This book has the entire question pool in the back for reference and practice. Each section is outlined in the beginning with the relevant questions from the question pool up front, so you can see the questions and correct answers. Then, full detailed explanations and examples follow, which actually illustrate the content. All of the relevant background information is included.
Most other books I have seen only explain the correct answers without actually explaining the detail and background info on how to arrive at the correct answers.
For the extra exam, this is more important than previous exams because of the questions on sections such as electrical principles, components, radio circuits, measurements and more. The previous two license class exams had more content that is simple memorization (rules, regulations, basic principles).
Unless you have the background knowledge on these subjects already, this book will actually help you learn the content AND pass the exam.

About the author
Quality drop
Let me start by saying the quality of the content & structure of the course material is great! That being said, one of the main reasons I have typically enjoyed official ARRL books has been the physical quality of the material which in my opinion has dropped with this 13th addition. 1\ There is a noticeable difference in the quality of the paper used for this manual. 2\ the entire book seems to have been printed in "draft mode" likely to save ink. 3\ No use of color at all throughout the manual along with the side chapter indexing now missing. I'm sure all of this was done to keep the price down however I would have happily paid an increase in order to have preserved the quality.
