Vital resource for children dealing with a parent’s substance abuse
5 Stars
Vital resource for children dealing with a parent’s substance abuse
This is an outstanding children’s book that fills a void as a much-needed and vital resource for children trying to understand their parent’s substance abuse. It’s beautifully written and illustrated in a way that speaks to a child in a way like no other book of its kind. In a society where addiction seems to be so prevalent, the timing of this exceptional book couldn’t be better.

I found out about this book at The National CADCA Conference. I ordered a copy when I got back and fell in love with it! Timbi Talks is a great book to help children who dealing with a parent or relative who has an addiction issue. The book is put together so children can understand that the addiction issue is NOT their fault. The art work in this book is amazing! I have now purchased over 40 copies and our coalition has given them to places like: Treatment Centers, hospitals, peer support staff, schools and county human services. It has been a huge hit among our treatment providers. This book would also work great for families who are struggling with addiction. Highly recommended!

The authors of this book have such an impactful story behind the creation of this book. Paired with a “Timbi” kit (stuffed bear, mini stuffed bear, coloring book, crayons), it’s a wonderful resource for those kids impacted by trauma. Book the authors for a presentation- you definitely won’t be disappointed! Such wonderful people!

Timbi speaks to children with a knowledge, understanding, and voice that everyone wishes they innately possessed.

Step parents, foster parents, & mentors who enter the lives of children with an addict parent need, but seldom have or can find, informed resources that tell them what to say, how to say it, and why.

Timbi offers invaluable insights and language to "grown ups" who are trying support the children whom they know are suffering.

As an adult who was not prepared and tried desperately to apply logic to children’s emotional needs, I wish I had access to Timbi's simple, yet profound dialogue.

If you know a young, an old or inexperienced parent of any kind who is in the life of the child of an addict, please introduce them to Timbi.

They and the smaller ones whom they love and so want to encourage will be moved, changed, and forever grateful.

Teens can read their own books of their choosing about turbulence they are going through. But, a child doesn't have the knowledge or resources to understand that a story can the ultimate truth and may help them feel much less alone. What better way to support a child who is a victim of someone else's alcohol and drug abuse - especially a parent. The non-addicted parent, grandparent or caring adult, can use this as a non-threating tool to open a conversation about what is happening at home and what can feel scary. Timbi is sweet and loveable. For kids, Timbi can be anybody or anything, including themseles that they want. Books are important learning tools and some become lifelines - that's this picture book. If you like Bernstein Bears, you will love this little bear.

This book creates a beautiful narrative for families to talk openly about addiction. The authors tackle a difficult subject but through their words, they tell a story in a simplistic way, so littles can understand and know that they are forever loved. Thank you for writing the sweet story of “Timbi Talks” to help children realize that their emotions are real and there are ways to cope with this disease at home.

I highly recommend this book for parents, grandparents, counselors, and educators.

Timbi is well illustrated and it's easy to fall in love with this adorable character. I cannot wait to see what Timbi tackles next!
