A friend recommended that I read Tara Brach. He had read this book and also listened regularly to her weekly podcast and said that her advice was useful to the point of being transformative. Though not a committed follower of any formal belief system, he is what I would term a Catholic in recovery in the process of migrating toward Buddhism. I think I can say the same about myself. There are more than a few of us out there. I suppose that Radical Acceptance can be categorized as self-help but in the best sense. I am no great fan of the genre, but I found it hard to put this book down or to dismiss Ms. Brach's arguments. The author's voice is kind but sure. Her mastery of the tenets of Buddhist teaching and how they might be applied to Western lay people feel spot on. Nearly every page has something to offer in the way of resonating observations or applicable practices. Though it has been months since I read the book, I still use one of her meditations every morning as I am driving to work. I pray for myself, my wife, those I will be working with, someone whom [try as I might not to] I despise, and then everyone and every being. It helps. "May we be filled with lovingkindness, may we be held in lovingkindness." It sound all granola and hokey but to paraphrase Herman Hesse, wisdom when spoken sounds foolish.

In this book, Tara Brach gives a very holistic perspective on self-acceptance. This comes from her background of being not only a psychotherapist, but a mindfulness teacher and a long time Buddhist.

Unlike some books on Eastern philosophy, which are very woo - woo and out there, this book gives a lot of practical examples and guided meditations that the reader can use to deepen their sense of radical self - acceptance. This topic is also examined from multiple perspectives, which

A wonderfully uplifting book that took me through a process of self examination and forgiveness. Since reading this book I have watched a number of Tara Brach's talks on You Tube which I highly recommend. I will read this book again and again.

5.0 out of 5 stars brilliant in depth easy going

A wonderful read on my lunch breaks, I love how Tara can be in depth though keep it easy going to read. I enjoyed the snippets of real motherhood and honest times in 3HO (something I came to 2014-2020) that takes courage. I’ve since listened to her guided meditations on Insight timer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ottimo libro
Reviewed in Italy on March 11, 2021

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book for those seeking to develop more self-worth and compassion
Reviewed in Germany on February 12, 2018
Tara Brach has managed to deliver a book that deals with a topic that is both resistent and omnipresent: low self worth. She helps you become aware of the many ways in which the feeling of "not being enough" manifests itself in everyday life and how to start on a path towards developing compassion for yourself and, by extension, those around you.
