On The Incarnation Paperback – July 1, 2018

4.7 4.7 out of 5 stars 300 ratings

On the Incarnation with an introduction by C.S. Lewis

By any standard, this is a classic of Christian theology. Composed by St. Athanasius in the fourth century, it expounds with simplicity the theological vision defended at the councils of Nicaea and Constantinople: that the Son of God himself became "fully human, so that we might become god." Its influence on all Christian theology thereafter, East and West, ensures its place as one of the few "must read" books for all who want to know more about the Christian faith.

Exquisite, yet simple telling of the beautiful miracle of the Incarnation. I highly recommend to anyone who wants to more fully understand why Jesus came, died and rose!

Such an eloquent approach to a point of utmost importance! That the great God would condescend to humanity is a great mystery but we're so grateful He did. He put on human flesh to defeat death and rescue us from its grasp.

Taking the time to meditate on this truth is something every single believer must do. This text was a wonderful break from the modern errors making as Christian doctrine today. I pay we all desire to get back to basics so we can one again be drawn into submission to Him.

Athanasius wrote a masterpiece in this book. His thought flows from the Incarnation, through the death and resurrection of Christ, culminating in how Christ is the answer to the Jews, Greeks, and others of that time. This book is still relevant today, since modern man has once again started following idols that are mere demons.

Not only was the book itself good but CS Lewis’ introduction was outstanding. Certain books are classics of the faith because they represent that which is historic and biblical. This book deserves to be on that list.

In many ways, this functions like what CS Lewis sought to do 16 centuries later in writing Mere Christianity. In fact, CS Lewis wrote the preface for this edition. And the translation makes easy reading of Athanasius’ profound insights. Essential for anyone who wants to understand how early Christians understood Christ, and understood themselves as pacifist and compassionate continuations of Christ’s work on Earth.

A must read for anyone learning about Our Lord and the great gift of His Incarnation. St Augustine is brilliant - a man filled with the Holy Spirit!

1st book I've read from an early church father. Fascinating knowing this was written from that time in history.
Many times I had to put the book down and think about it. I'm thankful that the Doctrine of the Trinity was defended and preserved. Athanasius was quite an apologist

I still haven't started reading the book. But by what I've seen it seems to be a pretty small, yet profound theological book. I'm pretty excited to see what it has hidden on its pages :)

On the incarnation, Athanasius articulates and defends the full humanity and full divinity of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. His articulation is clear and straightforward, you do not need to be a scholar to understand his logic. Very practical and insightful.

Easy to understand. One of the most important Theological books ever written. If you want to understand where Christianity comes from, and what it is, and why today’s Christianity is a fake plastic charade, read this. We need to hear it.
