I wanted a better set up for baking sourdough bread. I previously used my pizza stone and roaster pan but I realized sometimes it wasn’t tall enough. I didn’t want a large one function addition to my kitchen so this large Dutch oven is perfect! But the lid and pot can be used separately and it’s a great bread oven. I see gumbo in this pots future. The quality is outstanding. Please follow the directions for cast iron and rub a little oil on it and season it (super easy) before first use. I expect it use this for years and be able to pass it on someday. I highly recommend.

Nice combo unit in a well-sized cast iron skillet and griddle cover, but the surfaces as delivered from the factory are rougher and more coarse - almost sandpaper gritty - than most; so it requires a lot of use and seasoning before all the pores get filled in with polymerized oils so that the surface smooths out and the pans become as non-stick as well-seasoned cast iron pans are expected to be. Once enough seasoning occurs and gets baked in adequately, the pans perform well.

I like the look of them pot/ Dutch Oven.
I like the fact that the top can be used as a pan because the handles are on the side.
The handgrips fit the handles well making it easy to bring the hot pot in and out of the hot oven when applicable.
First thing I did was oil it and burn it in following the well provided instructions. Now it’s shinny and black, just like all my other cast iron looks. I wipe with a little oil from time to time to keep them looking great. I have used this for frying eggs and making sourdough bread and it still looks new and is non stick.
Follow the instructions which explain how to maintain cast iron and you will never have a rusty pot or pan. It’s easy to maintain.
Like I said, it’s not to heavy. Only 20 lb.
