The Hitman Vs Cade: Complete Kindle Edition
DOG SITTER WANTED FULL-TIME.
Must be able to handle aggressive dogs.
Fee to be negotiated later.
No kids/teenagers or old people.
Dog requires 24/7 care. Will provide room and board.
Only call between the hours of one-two p.m. Any calls outside of these times will be rejected and then blocked because if you cannot follow simple instructions, then you’re clearly too stupid to look after my dog.
Cade Gerant.
My name is Tyler.
I’m a professional hitman. After a job goes wrong, I am forced to go into hiding. But with no cash in my pockets and no place to call home, I’m running out of ideas and might have to spend a night in the dumpster like my handler suggested. Luckily for me, I came across this absurd flyer that will provide room, food, and a place to lay low. Unluckily, the man behind the flyer has a rotten personality and is probably insane.
His name is Cade. I felt an instant attraction to him, and he continues to surprise me. Something tells me he might feel the same way, but I know it’s pointless. He’s a civilian. I’m a hitman. It’ll never work. Meeting him has me questioning whether this is the life for me, and I’m maybe realizing what I truly crave is a new start, a new life—one with Cade.
Now we’re in danger. Someone’s out to get us, and I feel it’s my responsibility to protect the man I unwittingly dragged into this life. Hopefully, this hiccup doesn’t ruin our chance at romance, or will it be the push we need to bring us together?

- Reviewed in the United States on February 2, 2025My current policy is if I write a review I give it 5 stars because the rating system is binary and I want to encourage writers to keep writing. The overall editing of this book was good and there was some cute dialogue. Unfortunately this book felt very rushed and generic. In the M/M suspense/romance genre the hitman and the cop is a pretty common trope but this novel fell short of being engaging and had so many plot holes just waved away for the sake of moving the story on to the next scene. The main character is shallowly written and chipper/cheerful to the point of insanity. I could not believe that this character was a hitman (who also claimed to have killed hundreds of people by the age of 25). I also could not believe that there was any real reason for the main characters to be together. The why of it is waved away much like all of the other many times when showing vs telling would have made this a better story. This feels like a first book that was written copying the format of popular M/M authors. I do think with a rewrite this book could be a lot of fun.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 11, 2023I really liked this book a lot. Tyler is SUCH a likable and hilarious main character. Cade is the perfect straight-man (snicker) to his hijinks. My only complaint is that there’s no on page sex. It’s talked about that they have sex but that’s it. I guess as long as you go into this book expecting more of a comedy than romance though you’ll be pretty happy.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 8, 2022This book was such a fast fun read. It still had depth and some seriousness but wasn't weighed down with it. I loved and enjoyed all the characters so much. I might have wanted to see what was going on in Cades head a bit more but it didn't make me love it any less.
I too had a demon dog and the portrayal of both that kind of behavior and the love we have for them was spot on. Ours was Lola the Destroyer. Not sure if we named her appropriately at 8 weeks or if we cursed her with the moniker 🤷♀️. This made me nostalgic for her. We had to rehome her with childless friends after she bit our 2yo while he was watching tv one day, but got her back when he was 6... he learned to handle her with oven mitts, no joke. Anyway, I really needed that kind of read, thank you!

5.0 out of 5 stars my stress relief
💕 Maddox Auheim is my go to author when I want a silly, fun read. Tyler is a bit of a mess. Groomed as a hitman from childhood, he's really good at his job. But, his personality is nothing like you'd expect from a hitman. He's well, kooky, is probably a good word for it. And now, he's on the run. Cade on the other hand, is aloof, standoffish, and pretty funny as a result. He shows almost no emotion, except when it comes to his dog Buddy. What can we say about Buddy? He's the adorable dog from hell.
Yes, it's a hard and quick fall between these two, but frankly, it's not their budding relationship that fuels the story. Tyler is on the run, and somehow, Cade has been forced on the run too. It's a rom-com, but an action-adventure too. They get attacked, they have to run. Tyler's handler, adopted father, whatever you want to call him, is an interesting character to say the least. His "brother" and best friend is a riot and frankly, missing a few marbles. I can't get enough of his antics. All this to say, if you find life has gotten you stressed, Maddox is the one to read.
