Works Well, Eases the Pain, But a Little Wasteful

Works Well, Eases the Pain, But a Little Wasteful
I have a trigger in my left ring finger. I was splinting it with a cut down Emory board and bandaids. That worked pretty well but it fell apart when it got wet and got frayed and dirty pretty quickly so it was getting messy and expensive. I learned there were plastic braces that worked well so I did some research and found these. They’re working really well and I’m generally happy with them. They’re soft plastic in the color of bandaids, like the old racist “flesh-colored” bandaids. They’re flexible enough to be comfortable on the finger, they protect the finger and I can still wear my rings. They come in a package with some of other sizes. They fit well, ease the pain in the finger and keep it from locking down. But once I found the right size the question moved to what to do with the other sizes and if I want a spare I’ll be left with a supply of unneeded others in different sizes. They weren’t all that expensive—about $14 for a pack of 3 assorted sizes. But I can’t use the ones that don’t fit (I don’t know anybody around here with a trigger finger, so I’m left with buying another 3-pack to get another one that fits and storing the unusable ones or throw them out). That’s not a life-ending problem, and I hope I’ll be able to buy only the size that fits some time soon. The best thing is they work—no more pain or locking down of the finger and I can go about my day pretty much as if that trigger finger didn’t exist. I recommend them.

I have self diagnosed ;) trigger finger in my thumb. It was extremely painful anytime I bent my thumb and it was waking me up several times a night. I started by using a bulky thumb brace and graduated to just bandaging my thumb before I found this item. The BraceOn EZ finger splint provided relief as soon as I put it on and was extremely easy to use. I was able to continue going about my day with very little discomfort in my thumb. I wore it 24/7 for the first 5 weeks after I received it. About a week ago I started taking it off of my thumb for a few minutes at a time throughout the day until I felt like I needed to put it back on. Yesterday and today I’ve been able to leave it off most of the day with minimal pain in my thumb. My thumb is not 100% yet and I’m still careful with movements that require using it to tighten things, but it is significantly better. I plan on wearing for as long as I need to because it is just no big deal.

PROS: Its very comfortable, I forget that I am wearing it most of the time.
Unlike bandages or splints you can leave it on all of the time without worrying about it getting wet or dirty.
You can easily change its position on your finger simply by turning it.
It does was a bulky brace or splint does but is much more comfortable and far less obtrusive.
It successfully immobilized my thumb joint so that my ‘trigger finger’ had time to heal.

CONS: The cost is a con if you are thinking about it in terms of what you get. But if you think of it in terms of what it does, it’s probably worth even more money.

TIP: If you decide to take it off of your hurt finger for awhile just slide it onto another finger, like a ring (I use my middle finger). That way you won’t misplace it, it’s barely noticeable and it will be readily available if you want to slide it back on to your hurt finger.

Nicely fit. My finger is in the advanced stage of heberden's node and the size 7 fits. The other day, I was cooking a hot stew with this plastic ring on my finger, then suddenly I noticed it was GONE! I was in a panic. A scary thought grabbed my mind that the plastic ring slipped off the finger and jumped into the boiling pot along with chicken and vegetables... Immediately and frantically, I stirred it with a paddle looking for my lost ring before it melt. I also looked for it in the garbage bin in vain. Luckily, I saw it on the floor!!! To me, it seems it fits okay when the finger is dry, but it gets loose when wet. So, just be careful!

First, I recommend you buy the returnable sizing kit. It comes with maybe 50 pieces (I can't remember anymore) that you can use to figure out what sizes you need for each finger. And I do suggest sizing even the fingers that may not need a splint right now, JIC you might need them some day. I wear these due to Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS) -- my joints hyperextend (I also wear elbow & knee braces; have osteoarthritis). They keep my fingers from painfully bending backwards. Initially I only needed 2 on one hand & 3 on the other, but the pain in the other joints has increased. Some of these splints can be purchased singly while others come in 3-packs. I have painted my splints (nail polish) so I can immediately tell which splint goes on in which direction, which hand & which finger (since these little bad boys do have a front & back, 1 side being a scooch tighter than the other). They all do have the number size pressed into the plastic, but being so incredibly tiny & the same color as the plastic, it's really hard to see (for me). I removed a star from "Easy to use" because of the hard-to-see numbers, plus I feel they could do to add an arrow or something, so those that actually can see the super tiny numbers can also tell which direction is which. I removed a star from the overall rating because I feel they could offer a variety of skin tones for those that don't want these TOO noticeable -- seriously, if you're not pale & white, these will REALLY stick out. I, personally, don't care if they're noticeable (heck, they're painted!) because between the enormous leg & elbow braces, I already look half robot. I would highly, highly recommend these to anyone having trouble with joint-bending pain. They can also be worn so your fingers won't bend FORWARD (whereas my issue is them bending backward). I don't wear them when I sleep, & they are a teensy bit hard to get on in the morning due to joint swelling (I get my fingers wet to slide them on), but I pretty much put them on when I wake up & take them off when I go to bed. They do, unfortunately, slide off in the water, so I can't wear them in the shower or while cooking or doing dishes (too bad, those activities are painful). But they're with me for everything else.

This little splint has made life so much easier. I've been dealing with trigger thumb and previously purchased the splint that your whole hand fits into and fastens around the wrist. It was hindering many of my activities such as typing, which I do a lot for work. I kept saying, all I need is something to keep my thumb from bending too far. I searched and found these little beauties. Perfect! I use the middle size but it's nice to know that when my thumb swells, I have a bigger size if needed. I also like that one side is smaller than the other. When my thumb is swollen in the morning, I use the bigger side and then flip it when the swelling goes down. Another plus is that it isn't noticeable. In fact, I haven't had one comment from anyone asking what is wrong with my hand. Lastly, I can wash my hands without taking it off or, I can take it off and slip it right back on. The other splint was a pain to do that.

Such a simple concept and yet so needed. There is nothing else out there like it. I highly recommend this product!

I could not wear them as the size chart was not correct for me. I have to to order another larger size.
They are supportive, as my daughter tried them on and it worked for her, fingers were stable.
