Keyhole Marking Tool

"If you’ve struggled to hang picture frames or other wall-mounted décor with keyhole hardware, this Accu Mount Keyhole Slot Marking Tool Set is just what you need. It quickly installs on the piece you want to hang, and when you press it against the wall, a small mark is made in the exact location you need to place the screw. There are lots of hacks out there that will allow you to do the same thing but if you want an easy way to make these marks grab one of these keyhole markers online...."

How They Mark
Slot Types & Keyhole Interfaces

To ensure the Keyhole Companion works with the widest range of keyhole slots and hardware, three built-in interchangeable interfaces are included. Simply select the interface that matches the slot type, and screw it into the center post.

  • 1) Choose the correct interface for the slot type.

    2) Push the product to the end of the slot while tightening.

    3) Product needs to be perpendicular to the surface when tightened (if tilted, spacers can be used to make it perpendicular).

  • An adapter can be made using a 7/8” diameter or larger fender washer with #6 or 5/32” or larger center hole (available at hardware stores). Simply unscrew the flat interface, put it through the washer, and re-install the interface with the washer.

  • An adapter can be made by placing a spacer (like a wood coffee stirrer) adjacent to each long side of the hardware. The Keyhole Companion will then rest on the spacers and tighten perpendicular to the object surface.

  • • For surface mounted, a spacer will typically be needed under one end of the Keyhole Companion in order to have it tighten perpendicular.

    • For recessed, two spacers may be needed, one of them long enough to fully bridge the recess diameter.

  • Insufficient grip-range (interface extension) can occur if the keyhole slot material is too thick, if a recess is cut too deep, or as a result of the use of spacers. The remedy is to partially unscrew the interface to increase the product grip range.

I purchased the Accu Mount product last month knowing it would just be a matter of time before I had a need for it. Sure enough the opportunity to use it to mount a plug-stip in my office came up. It not only worked perfectly, it was a pleasure to use. The device was very well thought out. For example, if you are mounting on a dark surface you can swap the ink cap for a white one rather than use the black one, if you’re concerned about leveling, it comes equipped with a small level with an addhesive. It even comes with it’s own storage system, obviously I highly recommend it and urge my friends to get before they need it. I’m giving it five stars for uselfulness and for being extremely well made.- Paul Regen

    This seemed like a great idea for hanging sawtooth pictures. As I was hanging several decorations I got this. Easy to understand how to use, but the problem is the screws used to hold the sawtooth are way too big. The head of the screws would not fit in the sawtooth holes. It would be a much better product if it contained a variety of screws for a variety of holes.

    So buy this. Play around with it. You'll discover that it's ingenious. Make mounting stuff - power strips, range hoods, pictures, etc. Anything with those keyhole hangers. Works like a champ.

    Some pro tips:
    Know what to be gentle with and what needs manhandling. Taking off the ink caps requires a little aggression. Nothing crazy, but it is an affirmative action. You really can't break anything doing that.
    Be gentle but firm in cinching up the mount into the keyhole (by turning the colored inkpads. They do double duty here). You can distort your keyhole if you crank down too hard on the ink cap.
    Do be gentle when pressing he AccuMount to the surface to mark. It's basically like a rubber stamp. No need to bear down. Just a press will do. You can distort or otherwise mess up your AccuMount stamps if you overdo it here.

    Use the white one for marking surfaces that are dark (wood, etc.) - so the contrast is made between your mark and the surface.

    Make a job you used to hate something you look forward to!
