While primarily intended for leaders in education, Leading With Purpose by Dr. Shaun Nelms offers lessons that apply beyond the field. Dr. Nelms candidly offers relatable workplace scenarios/challenges in the book as *opportunities* to grow from. Many of the chapters conclude with questions (and space to write down your responses) to apply your learning, reflect, and think deeper about the leadership lessons presented. The biggest theme that stood out for me in Leading With Purpose, is the importance of being vulnerable. When a leader can own their missteps and correct course, it gives others permission to “fall forward.” I highly recommend this quick and easy read for anyone looking to become a more effective change agent in their community.

Dr. Nelms gave all of us the huge gift sharing an inside look at what real leadership looks like, how change really happens, and how equity can be advanced in schools. This book helped me reflect on my own leadership experiences, grow as an educator and grow as a leader. This book is a must read!

    Leading with Purpose is a must read for anyone who cares about improving our educational system and positively impacting our communities. The text is written in chunks with questions to ponder that could be used as a source for daily journaling and growth. Sage Sean Carter told us,…”Hov did that/So hopefully you won't have to go through that…” In a similar vein, Dr. Nelms reflects on his career and provides advice that should be used by the reader to become a better leader and overall person.
