"The path to power is cloaked in shadows, so if you avoid all the shadows, you'll never learn anything."
It’s 2090: the last outpost of freedom is the moon, the best defense against technology is magic, and the only hope for humankind rests in the hands of the Star Children.

Twins Cassidy and Torr must save Earth from a ruthless enemy at a time when the only force more powerful than alien technology is magic. Moon Deeds launches the siblings' journey across the galaxy, where they must learn their power as the Star Children, claim their shamanic heritage, and battle dark forces that threaten humankind.

The Star Children Saga follows Cassidy and Torr as they slowly awaken to their destiny as the twin Star Children, born every millennium to reconnect with the source of all life. They come to discover the sheer enormity of their task: to find our ancestors on a lost planet across the galaxy and save humanity from a spiraling descent into darkness. The powers they must wield to accomplish this task are truly frightening and put at risk everything they love.

Come along with twenty-year-old twins Cassidy and Torr, who inherited deeds to land parcels on the moon. They want to use their moon deeds to get off Earth and escape a brutal dictatorship. But first they must unlock their shaman powers.

A rollicking yet poignant adventure in the not too distant future, when we have colonized the moon and nearly lost Earth to a dictatorship. Only the shamans remain free, plus the lucky ones who escaped to the moon.

Join the adventure! An addictive space opera, science-fantasy series.

"Evocative, wholesomely absorbing, and thematically rich, Moon Deeds is a must-read for all science fiction fans ... Stunningly written, filled with magic, science, and intrigue, and featuring fascinating, endearing characters and a brilliant ravaged setting, this ambitious sci-fi novel is one of few books that once started are hard to put down and will make fans eagerly wait for the next installment in the series. It's a novel that deserves to be read by every science fiction lover. Highly recommended."
-THE PRAIRIES BOOK REVIEW

"A highly recommended read for fantasy fans everywhere ... There are some powerfully adult themes at play in this epic-length space opera, making the character-driven emotional plot just as important as the galaxy-wide savior story at play in the wider story arc. Fantasy and science fiction fans will enjoy the combination of alien sci-fi elements, super tech, fantasy magic, and old mythologies, which are all woven into the everyday plot with great credibility. Author Palmer Pickering handles the balance of interpersonal drama and plot progression well, and fans of series like Star Trek and Doctor Who are sure to appreciate such craftsmanship."
-K.C. Finn for Readers' Favorite

"Intelligent, high science fiction at its finest ... I found this novel to be as much a psychological thriller as it is a science fiction adventure, and the draw-in happens almost instantly. This is unquestionably one of the best books I've read this year and Pickering has roped in an entire family as new fans. I'd give Moon Deeds a whole bucket of stars if I could."

October Thriller Chiller
Let me start with WOW! just WOW! This true to life thriller had me really second guessing life choices. This book makes you appreciate the smaller things on earth, that some my take for granted. If possible real life situation scare you, more than horror flicks, then I recommend reading Moon Deeds for the month of October. Sheds a different light In understanding the moon, astrology, life, how everything around us has a living purpose. We all have special gifts and our DNA ties us to the universe in some way or another. Definitely a very suspenseful, soul gripping novel. The suspense is killing me though, will Cassidy and Torr ever fully gain all their powers as the Starr children. I must say, I wasn’t really into the books genre around space, war etc… but the story line of moon deeds was told in a way, that I’m not surprised it hasn’t went through a film adaptation already. Best cliffhanger ever and I’ve already started book two. Palmer Pickering very detailed way of writing will have you learning and understanding the possibilities of a future world that just may come true.

I love space opera. Picking up this book was the best thing I did. The premise was very intriguing to me and I couldn't wait to get started. I appreciated the opening preface chapter(s). They paint the picture of where the world is set and gives a glimpse at what is in store for the characters. In some cases, I prefer less description, but this was an exception.

I was hooked all the way through. Palmer Pickering is a new author for me. I found her writing to be captivating and very moving. I enjoyed the pacing of the plot. It's not a quick read. I definitely needed to set aside many hours every day, but it is so binge-able. I could put it down. It was the perfect source of entertainment during my down days while I was on vacation (recently). MOON DEEDS is just so good and I already diving into the sequel. I cannot wait to see what happens next!

If this book were a pizza, its worldbuilding makes it a deep dish. So much research and science was lavished on this book, and it's all woven in seamlessly. I loved the realism and attention to detail.

And the toppings of this pizza would be all the beautiful prose:

"He felt its pull as though its magnetic core still tugged at the iron in his blood."
"An anxious hour passed." (love this transferred epithet! I'm impressed any time an author uses a literary device beyond the basics like metaphor, alliteration, and personification)
"They ran towards each other, and she threw herself into his arms, laughing and crying as he lifted her off her feet and swung her around, their chests pressed together, their heads close."
"The Shaman's Shield proved magic to be a potent weapon. And if there's one thing Cephs respect, it's weapons."
And around 7%, there's a section where Cassidy sees a vision of her ancestors connected to her belly via a strand: "The line of women stretched back line a golden thread strung with pearls, one after another..." This part will stay with me because of the vivid imagery it painted in my head.

Now for the cheese and sauce: though there are great action scenes in this book, there's also a fair amount of scenes where not much is happening. The pace of those parts was a bit slow for my taste, but the quality of the prose and the interesting visuals were so good that I didn't mind so much.

The ending is a straight-up cliffhanger. There's no two ways about that. This bugged me a little, but book two is already here, so I can just hop over and read more--which I will be doing. After I go eat a pizza. This review made me hungry.

This is a marvelous book. The characters are compelling, complex, and emotional. The future described is neither all evil nor all good, and it's described so realistically that I can still feel the moon dust in my nose and expect to see large packing containers around every corner. The text is delightfully written with none of the bad grammar that makes picky people like me wince even in an otherwise great story.

Being from California myself, I enjoyed how our landmarks and coastline were woven into the story. I also found the mix of new technologies and surviving old mechanical technologies very realistic.

Alas, this is just the first book of the series, and it appears I'll have to wait a whole year for the next one. I really need to know *now* what happens next!

“Moon Deeds, Star Children Saga: One” is a book narrated by the twins Torrance and Cassandra, also known as Torr and Cassidy. We follow their journey as they leave Earth, thinking it is their only resort to find freedom, and their only hope to help their people. It is written with a lot of details, to help us understand better the complicated and amazing universe where these siblings live. An incredible story that will keep you biting your fingernails until the end.

Moon Deeds was a clever and interesting blend of science fiction, fantasy, and military fiction in a story that surprised me during several turns in the main plot.

The book opens with the initially peaceful contact of an alien race called the Cephs. They are human enough that interbreeding is possible, creating a number of hybrid alien/human communities. This eventually precipitates into a global war where the numbers-dominant Global Alliance side with the Cephs in what has become a steady colonization.

The fantasy elements are introduced when the remnants of human society, Gaia United, protect themselves with a magical barrier called the Shaman's Shield. It is localized over the American West, and Mount Shasta in particular, where a high number of capable magic-users originate.

As a native Californian it was nice to see some familiar locals in the early chapters of the book, even as the human resistance lose ground to the Global Alliance.

As the name implies, the story leaves Earth to our fair Luna as the duo of sibling heroes, Torr and Cassidy, seek out their birthright among the heavens and find a way to fight back.

I feel the story combined the grounded sci-fi/military elements fairly well with the magical/fantasy aspects. The series would be a great gateway for someone exploring beyond the realms of Tom Clancy books in the direction of those adjacent to Philip Pullman.

The only major detraction for me was not in the story itself, but in the storyteller of the audiobook. While Palmer Pickering has crafted an engaging and expansive universe, I feel like the narrator chosen for the Mythology Press production on Authors Direct did not have a voice suited for the material. It would greatly benefit the next book in the series to be read by someone with more familiarity describing action scenes and military fiction in general.

Otherwise, this was a fantastic Booktasters recommendation, and I look forward to more of Pickering's work in the future.

𝑴𝒐𝒐𝒏 𝑫𝒆𝒆𝒅𝒔, this book is based on the space opera by Palmer Pickering.

While picking up this book I had my own thoughts from this book. But since I had dived in this book I was able to gauge what this book offers and was mesmerized with the plot!

The story of the book is set in 2090 with completely fictitious world created by the author. The book has been set with multiple themes which revolves around one story.

The story is set up around two protagonist Cassidy and Torr who both are twins! Torr is serving in the US army.

The Cassidy has been described as a simple girl, helps her mother in her household chores and stays at her home. They both are living in their respective lives, unfaze about their secret powers.

The book has written in different timelines, which transit quite smoothly. The book has been written along with certain captivating maps and eye- catching as well.

The book is written in fantasy genre, but the way author has put across the emotional quotient I was not expecting the same. Loved these transitions in between.

I felt the language could have been more smooth since certain words seems like Jargon!

I was looking forward to getting into this one, as I had seen so my hype about it. I typically struggle to keep interest with space opera style sci-fi, but considering it had a fantasy element, I wanted to give this one a try. I already had the audiobook version, so I listened to it while I was reading on it my kindle (adds the experience!) The first 4-5 chapters, I was hopeful. The enjoyed the world building, the writing style then for me it went down hill. It started too slow and the characters couldn't decide whether they were strong leaders or something else. The audiobook version gave me the most frustration and perhaps it would have been better if I only read the ebook. The character voices completely missed the mark, as all the male voices sounded the same and the females were just whinny. It felt like the narrator was just reading the book rather than "acting" the story. It was a DNF for me.

Palmer Pickering is a well famous author and she has achieved lots of name and fame through her writings. She has been writing fiction since she was eight.

She has impressed me with her writing style and plot development techniques. Now I am her big fan.

The book I am going to discuss is "Moon Deeds" which is a fine book in fine language and I would blindly suggest everyone read this book because it's one of its kind.

We are from that period when J.K. Rolling introduced us to the world of fiction. And this book matched the same level.

The book goes on with the task of saving earth and humankind from bad and negative powers. It's a battle between truth vs darkness. The best thing about this book is it's not just a book. The Author has started a saga.

After reading this book you will be a big fan of this series and will eagerly wait for its upcoming parts.

The story begins in the year 2090. The Author has used science and fiction in such a way to present us with a new kind of book.

The task of saving the earth is up to two siblings Cassidy and Torr and the journey of the universe will take you up to the next level.

It's not just a book, it's an adventure and an addictive space opera, science-fantasy series.

Love the Author and eagerly waiting for the next part.

Cassidy and Torr are trying to survive in the moon colony while facing threats from all sides. The more they confront their enemies, the more they unlock their magical powers....... ( to be continued in Light Fighters; the next part )

The above lines are quite amazing and could make curiosity anyone read the first part "Moon Deeds" which is brilliantly crafted by Palmer Pickering.

The Author has added an Appendix section in the book which is quite an impressive thing. It's a well-developed saga which has a grand narrative and vision of science, history, fiction and magic.

It's a story of two siblings or twins who are born every thousand years to reunite the Star people with their descendants who are scattered across the galaxy.

It's a reading of 588 pages and trusts me you will need more due to its gripping and outstanding plot structure.

The cover is also very beautiful and attractive which will force you to grab and read it. From the beginning to the end it's just fab..

Before we get to know the book let us talk about its cover first. The cover gives adventurous, space opera vibes. Which hyped me up to read this book and this book truly lived up to my hype.
The story is set up in the year 2090. Where the world is taken over by hybrids and they are known as Tregs. The twin siblings Torr and Cassidy are the protagonists of this story. They received the moon deed from their aunt that will save the world. Both of them are unaware of the power they possess. Torr is serving the US army and Cassidy stays at home and helps her mother with the herb garden.
When will these twins realize their powers? Will they be able to save the world? To know all of these you must read this book.
I can recommend this book to all sci-fi enthusiasts. The storyline is pretty amazing and written very well.
