Snowed In: A completely hilarious fake dating, forced proximity romantic comedy (Catherine Walsh Christmas romcoms) Kindle Edition

4.3 4.3 out of 5 stars 16,393 ratings

Megan is dreading going home for the holidays. She’s the village pariah, the she-devil who left local golden boy Isaac at the altar four years ago and ran away to the big city. She could really do without the drama. Particularly as he’s engaged again, and she’s just been dumped for the fourth time this year.

Christian’s fed up of being on his own every Christmas. He doesn’t mind being alone, but he hates his family’s sad eyes and soft tones as they sit around coupled up. Because he’s actually, totally, fine.

So when Megan literally bumps into Christian in a Dublin pub, they come up with a pact to see them through the holiday season.
They’re going to be the very best fake dates for each other, ever.

Rules are drawn up, a contract is signed on a wine-stained napkin. They will sit through each other’s family gatherings and be outrageously in love until freed from their annual obligations. After all, it’s only for a few weeks.

But with everyone home for the holidays, two big families to deal with alongside old friends, old flames and old feelings, things are bound to get messy. And when a snowed-in cabin and a little Christmas magic are added to the mix, anything could happen…

A swoonworthy and utterly gorgeous romantic comedy that will make you laugh out loud and fall completely in love. Fans of Emily Henry, Sophie Kinsella and Abby Jimenez won’t be able to put this down!

Great snowy day read!
3 Stars
Great snowy day read!
I really enjoyed the character arcs of Megan and Christian. Their relationship was fun and cute to see unfold.I wish it didn’t take 70% of the book to get to the “snowed in” part, because the rest of the book felt like it was on fast forward. It took so long for the book’s plot to build that when it got to the peak of it, it was almost over. I wish Megan and Christian got snowed in at the cabin for a majority of the book, it would’ve been interesting to see how they handled it.This was a cute romantic comedy, great for Christmastime. Some aspects were a little strange but the over all concept of the book was fun. I would recommend this for a snowy day read! Tropes: fake dating, friends first, old flames, forced proximity

Unlike many pretending to be in a relationship story, this one wasn’t silly or ridiculous, but somewhat serious with characters you really care about. Megan and Christian each need a fake partner when they return home for Christmas. Megan hasn’t been home in 5 years, not since she was a runaway bride, who left behind a groom and many people who are still angry with her for dumping her ex. Christian is dissatisfied with his life and tired of being the only single person in his family. Although they grew up in the same village and went to school together, Megan and Christian were very different and never friends, until now. I love the slow burn of their relationship and the authenticity of their reluctance together. I was pleased to find out why she ran from her wedding.

Snowed In is the next book in the Fitzpatrick Christmas series.

I loved The Holiday Romance and I couldn't wait to see how the next couple got together.

Catherine Walsh uses the fake dating trope masterfully.

Megan has not gone back home for the last five years. The last time she was there, was when she ran away from her wedding. She was going to marry her high school sweetheart, Isaac. Yet, Isaac was not really sweet but she never told anyone.

Christian knows his family expects him to return home for the holidays but he is not looking forward to it. His family is all coupled up except for him. So when he bumps into Megan at a Dublin bar, he realizes they have something in common, neither can return home without a significant other. The best plan would be to make their family believe that they are a couple and that way they can enjoy the holidays without the pressure.

It was so nice going back to the town and these characters. Megan and Christian were easy to like and root for.

I can't wait for the next one in this series.

Cliffhanger: No

I read so many reviews about this, it's sweet, it's fast paced and really nice story. Definitely deserving the hype!

My little adventure into love stories about Irish characters with self-effacing and laugh-out-loud funny humour began with Holiday Romance, which is the interconnected standalone pair of Snowed In. In Holiday Romance we got to meet Christian, and my memory only served a reminder about him being grumpy, I have to confess, he was a swoony book boyfriend, who with his struggles, self-doubt, charisma and assurance about wrong and right wormed his way into my heart.
From the first scene he appeared in I was invested in his character arc, his seemingly cocky attitude paired with complete confusion about life’s biggest questions made him a compelling MMC. The way he treated his family and complete strangers, and how he assured Meg, that there’re men worth the wait and pain was heart-warming.
Megan was a resilient and headstrong FMC, with the biggest heart and passion projects littered all around her. She did what many couldn’t have done in her shoes: left a small town, never looked back. Built new friendships, started a job in a completely new field, became financially independent from her parent.
The storyline starts with the best romcom meet cute, follows it up the perfect romance trope, about two fools agreeing on faking it till they’re making it, them eventually developing feelings far more serious than a platonic relationship should allow and, of course, in the end realizing something profound is on the horizon while being trapped in close quarters!
Catherine threaded around the fake dating trope beautifully, it never seemed artificial, and the character development with the small added details regarding personal growth was plotted and written beautifully. I was able to truly immerse myself in the Irishness of it all, and loved every single minute of the masterful banter I’ve come to pair with her writing style.
Snowed In is the perfect Christmas spirited romcom for this year and I would wholly encourage every romance lover to check it out.

A light, funny and entertaining read, with really likable characters. 3 stars instead of 4 as it wasn’t necessarily a page turner with suspense and unknown or anything overly imaginative.

What's better than Christmas, family and romance? Apparently a fake relationship and getting Snowed in the woods, who knew!? This is a super cute story from start to finish. Definitely a feel good type of book.

Lo compré porque me pareció "meh" entretenido su libro anterior "Holiday Romance", pero este libro tiene más elaborada la trama.

SPOILER ALERT: es mucho más entretenido pero sigue el mismo final que cualquier comedia romántica.

5.0 out of 5 stars I'd give it 6 stars, if I could.

It is rare for me to want to give more than 4 stars to a book, let alone more than 5... but this one is definitely one of them! It was indeed hilarious, and I did laugh... out loud and often! Sometimes to the point of tears. I mean, I didn't laugh all the time, either; some moments were more serious. But the humor was right up my alley.

It also felt genuine... no forced moments. I loved the story, the characters and their backstories, the plot, the spin on the tropes, the dialogues... everything felt authentic and real. A breath of fresh air. The writing flowed so well, it pulled me in and wouldn't let me put the book down. I started reading late evening and didn't go to bed until 8 am the next morning, because I read straight through the 6 hours my Kindle told me it would take!

So much so that I actually want to buy it to keep it on my shelf and re-read... I want to be able to pull it off the shelf 20 years from now, whenever it's out of print, and still be able to enjoy it. I'm usually happy to read a book once and return it to KU when I'm done. But I'm putting this one on my list of books to own. Santa? I've been a very good girl this year... ;)

Only one word can describe this book.

It did get a little too lovey dovey in the end but it's okay.

The Story 📚
Megan hasn’t returned to her hometown since running away from her wedding day four year ago. But with her brother back from Australia for Christmas, she can’t put it off any longer. She’s dreading stepping foot in the town where everyone has something to say, and everybody is team ex fiancé.

Christian faces into another Christmas being alone. In a big family where everyone is loved up, he feels disconnected from them all while convincing everyone he’s grand. What exactly is his life missing?

But, when Megan and Christian bump into each other in a pub in Dublin, they decide to form an agreement - fake a relationship for the holidays. With a lot of history, big families, and a great deal of snow - things can be expected to get a little messy! But how much Christmas magic is in store for Megan and Christian?

The Review 👩🏻‍💻
I just adored this book!! It’s been my favourite of Cat’s so far (I’ve read The Matchmaker and Holiday Romance - so 3 out of 5 of her books!). Sometimes the auld imagination when I’m reading books is terrible. But not with Catherine’s books. The way she writes dialogue between her characters - honestly I could be watching a movie!! The Irish elements and humour just finish it off perfectly. This would be the perfect Irish version of a Hallmark Christmas movie!

Both Megan and Christian’s characters were just so lovable. I really appreciated both of their own individual stories, with some really important topics included (which I don’t want to spoil, but let’s say very related to a former social care job I had, so really welcomed the subject being covered). There was such perfect spice and genuine character building. The worst part of the book was simply the fact it ended! I would have stayed with them forever!

If you want a fun, Christmas themed romance, I highly recommend! Would make a perfect Christmas present also! But maybe not to the mother in law, things might get awkward…
