I purchased this to breathe new life into an old, high quality duvet purchased over 20 years ago in England. This year I noticed it was losing it loftiness and I was actually considering replacing it. I looked for one that was of equal or higher quality and was unable to find one without spending a lot more money than I was prepared to. I decided to add more goose down myself. I was apprehensive and concerned about the mess that would be created by taking this on. After researching “how to videos” and using ideas from other reviewers, I came up with my own solution to minimize the mess and it worked. I used a plastic laundry hamper and covered the sides with ventilation holes using plastic wrap. I gently opened the bag of down when it was in the hamper (I did not empty it out). I used an empty paper towel roll and filled it by hand while holding it down inside the hamper. I then gently placed the roll into the opening I had made in the bottom of the first channel. I used the rod from the paper towel holder as a plunger to push the filling out into the duvet. I taped each opening shut as I worked along all ten channels and removed the tape to add subsequent amounts of down to each channel until it was all gone. I used a hand-held vacuum with a nylon stocking fitted over to scoop up the remnants of down left in the bottom of the hamper to add to the duvet before finishing off by sewing the openings shut and then sewing a quilt seam binding along the entire length of the bottom of the duvet. There was absolutely no mess at all after finishing.
I found the product to be of good quality containing 100% clean, white, down with no feathers. Although I did not weigh it I presume I received what I paid for, I just know my duvet is like new again and I am so pleased I undertook this. A great money saving alternative for the "do-it-yourselfer".
