From School Library Journal

K-Gr 4—How many eyes should an alien have? What kind of face does a race car driver make in action? Professional illustrator Garbot encourages kids to use imagination and humor when drawing cartoons. Cartoon themes include superheroes, aliens, monsters, animals, sports, and fantasy figures made up of simple shapes such as circles, squares, triangles, and, occasionally, blobs. Ultimately, this is a simple exercise in learning how to draw. Projects are suggested with steps to take toward the finished figure. Blank practice pages follow examples of eyes and mouths, while color wheels teach about using primary, secondary, and complementary colors. Expressions are suggested to show different emotions. The line drawings given as templates are bold and easily traceable, while the color palette is vibrant and inviting. The book encourages readers to add their own ideas to the offered suggestions. VERDICT Kids will want to draw all over this book, so have some scrap paper handy. Consider for art/illustration-centered programming. —Jessica Cline, New York Public Library

So fun to draw from!!!
I'm retired and enjoying spending my time learning to draw. While this book is aimed at children, I so enjoy Dave Garbot's artwork that I knew I had to have it and I have so enjoyed drawing the pictures in it.

This is a great book! My mom bought it for me for a Christmas present, and right away I took to drawing the cartoons shown in the book. I haven't tried them all, but the ones I have done so far (a bear, a soccer player, assorted others) have been exciting and inspiring to draw. I already know that I want to be an illustrator when I am older, and this book fuels my imagination for drawing fun pictures.

I did, however, give this book a 4 star rating because some of the drawings (note that I said some) are rather complex and challenging. (BTW I am 12 years old)

Overall, it was a great Christmas present!
