Hank Hudepohl's fourth book of poetry wherein he explores questions of memory, home, community and family. Hudepohl is an American poet. He spent his childhood in Kentucky, attended Harvard, and served in the US Navy as an officer on an aircraft carrier. Later, he earned an MFA from Hollins University in Virginia, where he also taught creative writing. He has published three previous books of poetry: The Journey of Hands, Riverbank, and Praise Poems. His work has appeared in literary journals and magazines, and has been featured on the NPR show The Writer's Almanac numerous times. He now lives with his family in Northern Kentucky.

In
Heights, Hudepohl explores the meanings and mysteries of identity, family and memory. As John Drury has noted: "Hudepohl's work looks easy and appealing, but it's also layered and subtle, with tensions underneath every poem."

Hank Hudepohl is a craftsman. His poetry is written in easily understandable language. It is deceptively simple, and Hudepohl executes it with perfection. There are universal truths in these poems. Hudepohl touches the heart, but avoids that kiss of death for poets, sentimentality. I read this book in one sitting, and have gone back and read it again. Former United States Poet Laureate Ted Kooser wrote once that there is no such thing as a famous poet. With few exceptions, he is right. Hank Hudepohl is not famous, but he is a very talented poet. I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes poetry. And if you don't like poetry, you might after reading this book. I am looking forward to reading more work from this poet in the future. Nice job.
