In "Oh Mind, Where Have You Gone Today?" by Hannah Blum, words become windows into the uncharted territories of the human experience. This collection of poems and essays delves deep into the soul, exploring themes of madness, mental health, mending, love, loss, patriotism, sensuality, womanhood, and the intricate tapestry of humanity.

I place my critical thoughts
on lily pads and watch them
float downstream,
the merciless lies
drifting away from me.
I know these thoughts
will return,
sooner than I’d like,
but so will the lily pads.

Blum's powerful and evocative words reveal the raw beauty hidden in vulnerability, inviting readers to confront the stigmas surrounding mental illness and embrace the complexities of the human psyche. Illustrations accompanying the writings add another layer of depth, allowing the visuals to resonate with the emotions conveyed in each piece. This groundbreaking collection challenges societal norms and champions self-acceptance, especially in the face of adversity.

Discover the transformative impact of these words, making it an essential read for those seeking poetry books for mental health, poetry books about healing, inspirational quotes for women, self-love books for women, mental illness poetry, self-care books for women, bipolar books for adults, and anyone touched by the profound poetry of mental illness and love.

Hannah weaves a blanket of security as the reader embraces her words.
5 Stars
Hannah weaves a blanket of security as the reader embraces her words.
From the unique cover artistry and title to the first glimpse into Hannah ‘s thoughts, I did not put this book down. It seemed as if she was knitting a blanket where every stitch and every corner had purpose in the storytelling of poetry. The weight of her words and her visions of the body are so spot on. I’ve gone back to this book over and over again to get inspired and understand the workings of mental illness; the helplessness and darkness being overcome by beauty and belief in oneself.

The pattern of words and exquisite drawings in Hannah Blum's book, Oh Mind, Where Have You Gone Today?, takes you on a journey of insight and appreciation of what it is like living in a world of tumultuous thoughts and the unrest and confusion they can cause. In this beautiful book, Hannah has shown us that a mind experiencing dis-ease and discomfort can also simultaneously experience beauty and order, conveying a juxtaposition of the sanity and serenity that can co-exist with chaos and disorder. With her words, Hannah is so good at showing us that the silence and tranquility of the observing mind can also thrive along side the chaos and add to a deeper understanding of its unpredictability. The power of Hannah's poetic words and skillful drawings, has artfully brought to the mainstream, a subject once so taboo, shrouded in mystery and misunderstanding, into the light of hope and possibility. There is transformational power in this book and I am grateful to Hannah for her courage and efforts in bringing it out into the world.
