It's very thick,sturdy and long! I wasn't expecting it to be this large. I was going to return it a first! I figured it must not be for small birds, but my Parakeets are young and can't fly yet. It ended up working out perfectly! He loves walking up and down his 37" high cage on this.

We just replaced a smaller, cotton-wrapped perch with this one. So far she has not chewed on it. The last one was chewed up so it had to be replaced within a couple of months. We coil it through the branches of her perch and she is crawling around on it. Thankfully she is chewing on her yucca chew-toy and not the perch, so we hope this will last awhile.

I'll start with the cons, then go on to the pros and how you can use this product if you choose to purchase it

Cons
Middle wire is galvanized, which is unsafe for birds
Each end has strands of tacky unsafe adhesive sticking out
Jute has trouble staying tight around the wire, allowing the wire to be exposed
Not good for birds that like to chew and tear
It was stinky, and smelt of strong plastic fumes

Pros
Sturdy and strong. Great for parrots with big feet (if you take the time to bird-proof it)
The rope part is 100% jute, which is safe for parrots
Great value. At some place like Petco or Petsmart, this would have costed 40-60 USD
Big size, much bigger than expected
Good for even the smaller birds. While thick wooden perches aren't the best for gripping with small feet, jute rope is a good material because it allows their nails and little fingers to grip just fine
Good for birds that don't chew their perches

General tips:
You should rip off additional glue strands, on anywhere on the perch.
You can buy jute rope from the dollar store to wrap around the ends (where the majority of the glue is) to cover the adhesive and keep your birds from chewing on a bad part of the perch
You should use jute rope and tie some tightly along the perch to keep the rope tight on the wire, that way it won't be so exposed
You should keep an eye on the perch, and perhaps keep it outside of your cage so that it's less risky to give to your feather babies
You shouldn't give this to birds that are notorious for destroying rope perches
If you want a less risky perch to go with, you can always look for sisal rope perches instead

Mine came used in new packaging. It had bits of bird droppings on it. I am sending it back and getting a refund. Its also huge and way too thick for a small bird such as my conure. The rope is loosely wound around a thick metal wire which is not safe for birds, just overall it is nothing like what I expected and I am super dissatisfied. Do not buy!
