It’s good enough, but not the usual Neewer quality. And be prepared to clean up excessive grease!!
4 Stars
It’s good enough, but not the usual Neewer quality. And be prepared to clean up excessive grease!!
Needed a precise distance control for my macro setup, so I was super excited to get this. On paper, sounded exactly what I needed. I have the Olympus 60mm f2.8 macro lens and the depth of field on that lens is so thin, it often miss my focus. With this Neewer focusing rail slider, I have much better control. The good:Does exactly what it says on the box. Love the fine precise control of the depth. This product nails it perfectly. The built quality is very nice. Feels solid and well-weighted. Also love the versatility of the arca mounts. Making camera changes a super simple chore. The etched markers on the rails are much appreciated too, which makes repeating the setup or adjustments just a little bit easier and more convenient to do.The not so good:Speaking of the etched markers on the rails, they are not dead accurate, but it’s very close. At least not on my example I have. Just be aware of it if you need super dead-on precision for whatever reason or subject you’re taking photos of.The sliding rails move very smoothly without the weight of the camera, but once it’s all mounted on the tripod, the cantilever design of the rails causes the movement to become very jerky and rough as you turn the adjustment knobs due to the weight of the camera and lens. Not a huge deal as it still works fine, but the jerky action does take away that quality feel and your perception of a precisely engineered product. This last complaint bugged me the most - Neewer applied way way too much grease/ oil on the rails!! The whole product was pretty much greased up with my finger prints after not realising the greasy rails and gears. I understand you need some for a smoother action, but please check out my photos. It literally is thick and heavily applied. I had to clean and wipe down the whole product with alcohol. Why?? Because I had to after getting the greasy oils on my camera controls, display, and lens!! You can’t just wipe it off with your hands or lens cloth, because it keeps coming back from general handling of the product. Absolutely stupid and unnecessary. Seriously, I was planning on dissembling the entire product to give it a proper cleaning, but seemed fine after a wipe down.Should you get one:At this price point, this is a good handy product and works exactly as it should. Just be aware of the cantilevered design if you are mounting a heavier setup, as it will cause the rails to slide rough and jerky. Not a big deal if you can see pass this minor shortcoming. Every time I move the rails, the jerkiness does remind me of using a low-budget product. Still, I doubt this would cause any long-term reliability issue to the movement, but I can see why Neewer applied a ton of grease to minimise this design disadvantage. As for the greasy oily rails, just be prepared to wipe down the whole product with alcohol after receiving it, so you don’t start transferring grease to your camera equipment and /or worse, to the subject you are taking photos of.

I am impressed with this. It's solid build and works well. It feels like a precision-made product. I have this mounted on a copy stand and it holds a heavy mirrorless full-frame camera and lens. The adjustment knobs work smoothly and evenly. Good grips on the knobs. I especially like the Arca-Swiss mount that it comes with (including a plate) as all my cameras have Arca-Swiss plates attached, so it was easy to put them on.

IMPORTANT: It also comes with a smaller 3/8" screw adapter for additional adaptability to copy stands (which tend to have the smaller screw diameters rather than the 1/4" "tripod" screw sizes.) Oddly, there is no information on this on the product description, even though I found this to be very important, since I would have been unable to attach it to my copy stand mount!

All in all, this was a very solidly made product at a good price. I would recommend it.

When I first got this I thought it was a waste of money cause I didn't see the true value of this until I got a non-focus ring lens and then that when this truly start to shine. It was east to set up and even more easy to make small adjustments to stack the focus of the subject.

I say it's a must have for macro photography.

Ok - so - my son, loves doing lego stop motion - this camera slider is a game changer for him. This slider allows him to zoom in and out and side to side SMOOTHLY.
I saw this and I knew he would benefit from it.
It Feels VERY sold - the gears are very precise - everything moves perfectly and solidly - each axis can be locked down at any increment - it's not detent specific.
I'm very pleased with the quality of this slider rig.
Here's the tricky part - and this might only be the fact that we have not bought an expensive tripod.
Our tripod does not have a larger mount screw to change out the swivel camera stand on the top.
I had to make a modification in order to attach this slider to an existing camera holder.
it was not hard - I found a small screw - and 2 small nuts that would thread onto the screw.
I removed the bottom mount plate - which had 2 small allen headed screws -
I put my own screw through the middle of slider mount - and used the first nut to tighten down the screw into the slider mount. - I then reattached the slider mount to the slider with the 2 allen headed screws. how I had a screw sticking out the bottom - I took my tripod camera mount - removed the camera screw from it - then set the camera holder onto the slider mount with the screw sticking through it. I then used the second nut and secured the whole thing together.
now it uses my existing camera holder to connect directly to my cheap tripod.
I had the hardware sitting around my shop - so it was no big issue to put it all together.
If I did not have to figure this out - it would a 5 star review.

I do a lot of macro photography and I have always carried around a large slider. However, with macro photography, this isn’t necessary. You are so close to your subject, the slightest movement is drastic. This is the perfect solution for that. The mechanics on it are well made and the thumbscrews work very smoothly and accurately. It's stable enough that the shutter itself does not cause enough movement to blur your image. The camera sits comfortably and rigidly on the slider.

The issue is that this rail when used with high-magnification macro lenses results in a very short field of focus for images. This issue is further exacerbated when you add macro extension tubes to get even higher magnification. The result is the user needs to take a series of photos and merge them to get a useful depth of field. It would make an excellent small rail and a very useful and reliable tool.

Although it is very compact, it has high rigidity and looks and feels good with a sense of precision and luxury. This is a much more expensive option as there are a few others on the market. But with that premium price comes a well-made piece of kit. I have high hopes for its longevity. The assembly of the screw drive mechanism is spot on with no backlash whatsoever. The movement is extremely smooth, something you would not expect in a product costing so little. When you look at the price of this compared to a high-end, small slider, it’s more affordable.

I am using a Fujifilm camera with an accessory battery holder, weighing in at 3 lb 4 oz, which the macro focusing rail supported with no problem. I'm not sure how it would perform with a heavier camera/lens combo. However, It does appear to be able to hold and focus a heavier choice. I'm sure you can find many macro-focusing rails costing much more than this unit, but quality-wise, this is near the top.

Overall a very compact and well-made slider. It offers smooth operation and I think the cost, although slightly high, is very worth it considering its premium nature. If you are after something that can offer more freedom to your macro Lens shoots, this is a great option. Highly recommend.

Hope this review helps.

Well constructed at only a fraction of the cost of its competitors this macro rail does what it is designed to do. The movement is by a rack and pinion system which is a little awkward making adjustments under the lens as opposed to a worm drive where the operation would be at the end of the drive. The adjustment wheel is not a fine movement with one revolution moving the lens 30mm, but with care a focus stack can be achieved. The important thing is that it does what it is designed to do at a value for money price. I would recommend for people who are on a budget.
