Editorial Reviews
Review
"I Look to the Mourning Sky is both deeply personal and deeply universal—a rare combination that leaves you both astonished (someone else feels this way?!) and comforted (I'm not the only one!). Liz doesn't shy away from sorrow, but instead points a flashlight at the darkest parts, offering profound and lyrical language to the heartache of loss. This raw collection is dripping with compassion and grace. A beautiful read for anyone in the midst of grief, and also anyone supporting a loved one through grief." -Ashlee Gadd, founder of Coffee + Crumbs
"Liz Newman walks through the landscape of bereavement and, with an honest voice,
touches every sorrow held within our human hearts. I Look To The Mourning
Sky examines grief through a poignant collection of poems written by a soul who
compassionately recognizes the many faces of our suffering and finds unexpected
meaning. These poems will guide you through a personal process of accessing tangible
memories, soothing painful triggers, and listening for invisible prayers still living long
after loss. Liz masterfully paints a realistic, yet eloquent portrait of our grief and how
actively mourning allows us to honor that which we loved so dearly. You will treasure
this book of poems." -Susan Frybort, author of Look To The Clearing, Open Passages, and Hope is a Traveler

I Look to the Mourning Sky is an eclectic poetry book. The poems vary in length and structure. There is also a variation in the weight of the themes presented. Some of the poems feel like a conversation between her and her dad. Some are written as reminders to herself, and still, others feel like a conversation between her and the reader.
Each poem is beautifully written. Each poem reflects Liz's heart. Each poem is a magnificent tribute to her late father.
The special bond Liz shared with her dad is evident in this book. In one of the poems, she writes,
"everyone who knows me
will know you too."
Through reading this book, not only have I gotten to know Liz, but I've also gotten to know her dad. She's a beautiful reflection of him.
I Look to the Mourning Sky also provides poetry and journaling prompts to help process your own grief.
This book has genuinely been written from the heart.

Thank you!
It’s a very good book and what I have been reading has certainly helped me.
I, personally, have found so much comfort in Liz's beautiful poems. A gentle reminder that "grief has no timeline. It is not linear." Everyone's grief journey is different, as we each learn to navigate through life after loss.
