Update after 6 years. The focus became loose and the cover in the middle where the hinge is started to rattle. One of the eye pieces somehow bent and will not rotate. I sent them in for repair. Depending if they repair or replace them for free will either solidify me as a customer or will push me 100% all in for vortex. Vortex will replace their products 100% no questions asked.

First impressions are impressive. Have not used them much in the field so take this review for what its worth. I have used cheaper monocular range finders and honestly I cant see using them again. Why carry both? The setup is a breeze. Not sure about the ballistic drop readouts yet because I cant believe there will be a setting that will match my loads as accurately as I would like them. You can match your ballistics from your handloads if you work backwards into them using the provided data in the manual. You simply shoot at different range targets with not elevation corrections and measure your drop, compare the drop and use the corresponding setting. I will be writing another review once I play with that. The quality of the binos feel and appear to be 1st rate. The readout looks nice and there are adjustments for both your left and right eye so you can fine tune your sight picture. There are nice features that allow the range finder to ignore brush and other obstacles between you and your target. the read out will display the furthest background while using this mode. The opposite is also available if you are ranging a small target and keep picking up the more dominate background. Overall I cant wait to put some miles on this unit and give a better field tested review. If looking for something at this price point I would not hesitate to make this purchase.

Fantastic range is all I can say! I tested the one mile claim and found that these binos are capable of surpassing it. I ranged a high dirt bank in twilight conditions at 1780 yards! In normal daylight conditions, I was able to get 1600 yards with no problems, so the rangefinder is great. The glass in the binoculars isn't bad either. It's not as clear as say, a Swarovski, but at a third the price it's pretty good. It looked about as clear as my cousin's Leica 10x42, with only slightly less field of vision. I have been doing long range shooting and needed a long range rangefinder to replace my Leupold 1000 yard handheld. These are a little bulkier but having the glassing capability and great ranging aspect as well. All in all, worth the price unless you have to have the biggest and best. Which translates into very expensive.

Just ranged a shale hill at 1858 yards in the daylight today. Pretty impressive if you ask me.

First let me say, these things are HEAVY, and if you plan on taking them hiking, or on a long hunting trip, you will understand what I'm talking about.
Second, I could not get them to read consistently...I tried ranging on a home at the end of my block, and it would never give me the same distance twice. Save your money, and buy a compact range finder, and a light pair of bino's. After all, you won't be using the range option that often anyway.

I bought these so that I had a bino that would double as a rangefinder so I could carry less gear and simplify ranging. I bought the 12 X 50 power because I am hunting in open areas where I need maximum magnification. I use a trigger stick tripod to set these on for ranging and spotting because I am not steady enough without a rest. The design is OK - a little hard to work the focus and activation buttons but was OK after I got used to it. The optics are good, not great. Compared to a set of Nikon Monarch 12 X 50 binos that I have they are not quite as good to my eye for clarity, but they are still very usable. The weight is reasonable for having both functions combined. The value is very good when you consider the whole package and the combined function you get. They seem pretty durable and so far (one hunting season) they have had no problems. I would give a 5 star rating if they were a little better ergonomically and had a little better optical clarity but I am very satisfied with them and they are a great value. They would cost a lot more if the optics were much better.
Update: I have used these for 3 seasons now and they are still functioning perfectly. I had the opportunity to finally do some long distance shooting to test the ballistic program built into these range finding binoculars. I picked the ballistic setting that was closest to my 270 Winchester (based on muzzle velocity and bullet drop at 300 yds.) and shot my 12" gong at different random distances like you would have in a hunting situation. The hold over readings from the rangefinder program were close enough that I could hit the gong at at four different ranges out to 400yds. I didn't try farther away because I don't intend to shoot at game farther away than this. It gave me accurate enough data to dope my scope for hunting antelope and I don't have to remember any range settings or carry a dope sheet. I just range find, read the hold over adjustment in the visual display, adjust my rifle scope turret, and shoot. As I mentioned earlier I use a tripod to stabilize the binoculars for taking range measurements and shooting the rifle.
This is necessary because of the high magnification (very jittery without a stable rest). I am really happy with this setup and I don't have a ton of money invested in these bino's. I would definitely recommend these if you are hunting antelope or deer in open country.
