The Holiday Trap: An LGBT romcom Kindle Edition
For fans of Alexandria Bellefleur and Casey McQuiston comes a charming, hilarious, and heartwarming LGBTQIA+ romcom about two separate couples finding love over the holidays from acclaimed author Roan Parrish!
FROM A COZY NEW ENGLAND HAVEN TO THE HEART OF NEW ORLEANS COMES ONE HOLIDAY THAT'LL CHANGE THEIR LIVES
Greta Russakoff loves her tight-knit family and tiny Maine hometown, but they can't seem to understand what it's like to be a lesbian living in such a small world. When an act of familial meddling goes way too far, she realizes just how desperately she needs space to figure out who she is.
Truman Belvedere's heart is crushed when he learns that his boyfriend has a secret life including a husband and daughter. Reeling, all he wants is a place to lick his wounds far, far away from Louisiana.
Enter a mutual friend with a life-altering idea: swap homes for the holidays. For one perfect month, Greta and Truman will have a chance to experience a whole new world…and maybe fall in love with the partner of their dreams. But all holidays must come to an end, and eventually these two transplants will have to decide whether the love (and found family) they each discovered so far from home is worth fighting for.

About the author

Roan Parrish lives in Philadelphia, where she is gradually attempting to write love stories in every genre.
When not writing, she can usually be found cutting her friends’ hair, meandering through whatever city she’s in while listening to torch songs and melodic death metal, or cooking overly elaborate meals. She loves bonfires, winter beaches, minor chord harmonies, and self-tattooing. One time she may or may not have baked a six-layer chocolate cake and then thrown it out the window in a fit of pique.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 4, 2024I haven't read a new book in one day for a long, long time. This story (or stories) grabbed me immediately and I had to know what happens to the characters next. The ending was quite satisfying as well. I highly recommend. <3
- Reviewed in the United States on January 9, 2023In The Holiday Trap, author Roan Parrish weaves an entertaining LGBTQ holiday romantic comedy tale that follows the self-defining journeys of two people who swap houses for the month of December.
Greta Russakoff lives in Owl Island, Maine, and works for her family owned real estate business. Greta feels that her family doesn't understand her LGBTQ lifestyle, and after her older sister Sadie and mom Nell volunteer her for the annual charity auction for a dinner date at the hometown holiday fair, she is so upset and wants to leave town.
Truman Belvedere is an accountant who lives in New Orleans, Louisiana. Truman finds out that he is in a secret relationship with his boyfriend Guy, when he stops unannounced at Guy's house to drop off his Christmas gift, only to find that Guy has a husband and an eight year old daughter! Truman is so upset that Guy had a secret family that he wants to leave town.
Greta and Truman's mutual friend Ramona suggest that they swap houses for the month. What ensues over the month of December is a parallel journey of self-discovery, and the chance to make lifestyle choices for both Greta and Truman that will ultimately change their lives.
Author Roan Parrish weaves a sassy tale full of humor and drama that easily draws the reader into Greta and Truman's story as they swap houses for a month, which leads them to discovering a chance to choose to live the life that they want. Along the way, they deal with the challenges in their lives, discover their true passion for the type of work that has in the past been only hobbies, meet supportive new friends, make lifestyle choices and decisions, and a chance at finding love.
The Holiday Trap is the first LGBTQ holiday romantic comedy that I read during the holiday season, and while it is not a usual genre that I read, I did enjoy the story, but I wasn't used to the queer trope or the explicit sex scenes that are usually not included in a generic rom-com story. That being said, I couldn't help but follow along as Greta and Truman's house swap gave them time for self-discovery, and a chance at romance, throughout an angsty and emotional roller coaster ride of a holiday month.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 17, 2024This was a fun holiday book, but it tried to do a lot. I enjoyed Truman's half of the plot far more than Greta's.
Truman and Ash were a cute couple with good chemistry. Even though they fell in love after only a couple weeks, it was more gradual and felt natural. I also like the bit of mystery mixed into Truman's story and the small town vibes.
Greta's side of the story had too much going it and it felt chaotic. Greta and Carys got together really quickly and then their relationship just stayed the same without much growth. I found it hard to stay invested. I also didn't really care for Carys. The nail in the coffin for her was when she made a big deal out of Greta cleaning the house, so much so that they had to have a serious sit-down chat. I get she wanted to clean the mess herself but mumbling "No, thanks" in a hungover haze to a serious of questions isn't exactly being "really clear about something." It's vague at best, and needing to have a long conversation about respecting boundaries honestly seemed drastic. And I get that she has some trauma surrounding boundaries, but it seemed more like drama for drama's sake than anything.
I do wish the book had ended without the drawn out epilogue chapters. Honestly, at that point I didn't care. They had the HEAs. A quick "here's where they are now" would've been much better than multiple chapters dragging the story out. I fully admit I skimmed them because, once again, I didn't care.
So, anyhow, this was an overall enjoyable read that fit my holiday mood, but it was a tad disappointing.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 12, 2022Really appreciated the nuanced portrayal of dementia in this book. It struck a good balance of showing the difficulties of being a family caregiver without dehumanizing the person with dementia. Loved the book.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 6, 2023The “holiday house swap” trope is always a classic and I enjoyed the way it was used in this story. Basically Greta and Truman’s lives implode for different reasons and they each need time away from home, so they swap houses. My favorite part of the book was getting to see Greta and Truman thrive in opposite environments (small town vs. big city). The story talks about finding the home of your heart and I love that! They both also find a loving and supportive found family that they’ve never had before and it was so sweet reading about them making those connections.
Unfortunately I have to agree with other reviewers that a lot of character growth and plot depth was lost because it follows two different main character and romances. It was a lot to keep up with. I think that my main complaint is that there wasn’t equal time with the main characters. The story felt very Greta focused and she was definitely more fleshed out and relatable than Truman, and she experienced a lot of character growth that Truman never did. I found myself wanting more of Truman and especially more of his love interest. As a result, his part of the story felt like an afterthought at times. Was his story still interesting and a cute romance? Sure! I just wish we had gotten more of what we got with Greta. (I also liked her story way more than Truman’s so I’m a little biased.)
Despite all of that, I did enjoy this book and thought it was cute and funny. I would read it again! I highly recommend listening to the audiobook. The narrators are perfect for their roles and do a fantastic job with the narration. They really brought the characters to life.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 12, 2024Highly recommend for all the queer holiday vibes with such great and healthy boundaries. It was such a wholesome read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Une petite pépite de douceur et d'intelligence
Mille mercis
