Create a Routine, More fun with Third Reality Products
Using the Alexa app, you can create Routines which are triggered when motion is detected or motion is not detected for a period of time.
To create a routine, go to the motion sensor’s detailed page in the Alexa app, and tap “create a routine”.
Try creating Routines like play News Briefing when motion is detected in the morning or have Alexa play a custom greeting when you come home at night. If you have a Smart Plug or Smart Switch, use a Routine to automatically turn the light or appliances on when you walk into a room and turn it off if there’s been no motion for a while.
You can create a routine like this, "When you come back home and the motion sensor is detected, the switch and fan will turn on automatically. " That's so cool! You also can create other Routines, like if no motion detected, turn off the switch and fan.
How does the Wireless Motion Sensor’s Pet Immunity function work?
The Wireless Motion Sensor has a certain detection angle and distance, considering these factors and the height of your pet to install the sensor to an appropriate height. When the pet is out of the detection distance of the sensor, the sensor can’t detect the movement of the pet; when the pet is within the detection distance, but not within the detection angle, the sensor can’t detect the movement of the pet either.

Next, forget the instructions that come with the unit where you are told you need to download the host application. It doesn't work, doesn't see or detect the Echo. Big waste of time. Just place the batteries in the unit and hit the tiny button inside to start paring. Then ask Alexa to detect devices. That's all it took for me. Then place the unit where you desire and setup a routine for a smart light, works every time. For the price, this unit can't be beat.
The bad: really slow polling rate (only senses once ever 20-30 seconds or so) I have mine set up on the top and bottom of my stairs to trigger some lights. If you walk downstairs then turn around and go back up because you forgot something, they won't trigger again. Will probably install some wired ones that have a higher poll rate to fix problem. Otherwise, these are solid.
Cheers
One of the main benefits of these sensors is their ease of use and compatibility with a wide range of platforms. They are easy to install and set up, and they can be integrated into an existing smart home ecosystem with minimal effort. Additionally, the pet-friendly design is a nice touch that can prevent unnecessary alerts and make the sensors more practical for pet owners.
However, those reasons explained above where non existen for me.
Firstly, the sensors are prone to false alarms, even with the pet-friendly design. This can be frustrating and lead to unnecessary alerts that can quickly become a nuisance. Secondly, the sensors are not very durable and may stop working at any time (I’ve had it for a few days and constantly they decide not to work)
Lastly, the sensors can be difficult to pair with some hubs, requiring manual intervention and technical knowledge that may be beyond the average user's abilities.
In conclusion, the THIRDREALITY Zigbee Motion Sensor 4 Pack is a useful accessory for a smart home that can help enhance security and convenience. However, issues with false alarms, durability, and compatibility has been scratching my head on why I decided to purchase them.
Please consider reading the reviews and you’ll see that several negative reviews are similar on why people return them.
On the back under the cover there is the reset button. Several units have had "obstruction" issues in that with the back cover on it presses the reset button and keeps it from functioning or otherwise kills the battery within a day or two.
I have taken off the board and filed down the board mounts with great success but the time it takes is damn near not worth the effort when you can box um up and send it back.
I have yet to have one of these fail with back cover removed. Im testing out another one right now with very likely the same blasted issue, again.
I may just drill a hole in the back where the button is to make clearance and save me the time.
As for the rest the motion detection is as good as others i have had within the first 10 feet or so, decent at about 15, sketchy thereafter. BUT for the price, well, i can place 2 of these if needed for less than one of those and REALLY get coverage.
As for the pet thing, well, no. They have the detector mounted at an "angle" to "avoid" the ground, hence missing the pet. Ok... well, dam dog still sets them off. You would have to mount very high, over 6 feet, and assure they are right side up with the detector facing the ceiling and then maybe.
Works like a dream with Hubitat. Easy Reset if needed, never a problem connecting/communicating.
Battery life is very good compared to some older detectors I have had, so far 2x and possibly up to 4x the life of my previous detectors. High traffic areas with Alkaline, so far, 3 months. Low traffic detectors still above 90% on battery. So high marks on that anyway.
Overall for the price, good. I own like 10-12 of these. the only really unexpected issue is that clearance with the back cover, just cheap manufacturing. So Expect that and be ready to drill, modify or return.
Top reviews from other countries
- Fast response times and reliable 100% of the time.
- The motion sensors came with their own batteries, which was a bonus.
- Setup was a breeze and took less than 5 mins.
10/10 would certainly recommend!
