Runaway Love: A Single Dad Nanny Small Town Romance (Cherry Tree Harbor Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.5 4.5 out of 5 stars 18,742 ratings

Yes, I’m a single dad who needs a nanny for the summer.

But hire the stranded runaway bride who shows up on my doorstep in a wedding gown with no references, no skills, and no experience?

No one is that desperate.

Except within twenty-four hours, down-on-her-luck Veronica Sutton manages to charm my kids, my family, and half the population of Cherry Tree Harbor into believing she’s perfect for the job.

And for me.

It’s not that I can’t see the appeal–those baby blue eyes? The endless legs? That mouth made for trouble? But I’ve got enough on my plate, raising two kids on my own and keeping the family business alive. I don’t have the time or the inclination to fall for an outspoken city girl.

So I should have kept my hands to myself.

Holding her in my arms was a big mistake. Even worse? Spending the night together. She ignites a possessive fire in me that I’m finding hard to snuff out.

But the most unforgivable? Growing attached to the sound of her laugh, the scent of her skin, and the way her body wraps around mine in the dark.

At the end of the summer, she’ll be gone.
And if I’m not careful, she might run away with my heart.

Ran away with MY heart!

Ran away with MY heart!
I am seriously such a sucker for a single dad/nanny romance! I’m backtracking and starting the Cherry Tree Harbor series from the beginning with this book, after having read Small Town Swoon, the fourth book in the series — wildly out of order. 🤣There’s something about a broody, protective single dad that just does it for me. And add to the mix a runaway bride who desperately needs something to anchor herself to, in this case, a nanny job to get back on her feet, and you have the formula for an amazing story. Both Austin and Veronica were so clearly were so clearly taken with each other immediately, even though they were trying hard not to admit it. I thought the progression of the relationship seemed very realistic and thoughtful, although I was certainly frustrated with how many near misses they had because they just wouldn’t talk to each other about how they were feeling. But, that was the point in adding that to the story, of course.I loved the found family element for Veronica in the story, given that she had no one of her own. I loved that she brought out a new side in Austin that he had buried deep long ago out of obligation to his family. I loved Veronica’s relationship with the kids, and how committed Austin was to being an amazing dad, which he was.Quite honestly, in the last 10% of the book I was having anxiety about how it would end, but think it wrapped up perfectly. Can’t wait to move onto the next book as I make my way back towards that fourth book and its story that I know so well by now. 🫶

What a sweet, fun and cute story- absolutely adorable!

This was such a wonderfully fun and hot read with lots of tension, hilarious banter, angst and a delicious push and pull! I loved the found family- It warmed my heart so much. The epilogue was chef’s kiss!

”It only happens once.”

Austin was the grumpy, jealous and possessive mmc, and to no one’s surprise; the one who has sworn off love but ended up falling head first. He was stubborn and selfless and put his family and kids before himself. I loved that about him, and I loved even more how Veronica made him realize he could also choose his own happiness. Veronica, Roni, was the sunshine out of the two. She was also bubbly and quick witted and really challenged Austin. I also loved that she fought for herself and didn’t let anyone walk over her anymore.

I felt like they were well developed and complex characters. Austin was locked in place struggling with disappointing his family and putting himself first for once. Roni was struggling with her abandonment issues and putting her trust in people. I liked how they both grew as individuals throughout the book and as they learned to trust each other they both also learned more about themselves. Their chemistry was so good. So was the smut. When they caved and gave into the palpable tension between them, it had me squealing and screaming- it was so good! This was just perfect.

Austin’s twins were adorable! The only thing I missed with this book was more time with the twins. I loved the humor and sweet moments they added to the story!

Oh, and the epilogue! It had me tearing up. It was perfect and so sweet! Exactly what you want from an epilogue!

This was an enjoyable read. It involves Austin, a single dad of two, and Veronica, a bride who ran away on her wedding day.
Veronica is all set to marry until her groom sends her texts meant for someone else hours before the wedding. After an interesting confrontation at the altar, she takes off. In need of a job and place to stay, she heads to Austin's home to interview for a nanny position.
Veronica hits it off with everyone, but Austin. Why? There are no real qualifications that he wants, so it's a no-go. The next day, she shows up again, looking for a bit of help. One thing leads to another, and she ends up with the job and more.
We get adorable children, interfering siblings, and wonderful interactions.

Veronica Sutton flees her posh wedding when she realizes her fiancé has been cheating on her. Since he has slowly taken over her life she has no money, no phone, no car, and nowhere to go. She is in the town of Cherry Tree Harbor for the wedding and has no idea the welcome she is about to experience from the town. Austin Buckley is a single father of twins who has lived in his hometown all his life. He’s in the construction business as a partner with his dad, and the oldest of five. He’s taken care of them since his mother passed away years ago. He is content with his life and understands his responsibility to his kids, father, and siblings; he would have it no other way. When he first meets Veronica as a possible nanny for his kids, he doesn’t realize his life is about to change in all the best ways.

I loved this charming and emotional story of a runaway bride and a stuck-in-his-way single dad of 8-year-old twins. It’s told with humor, vulnerability, and a bit of angst. Ms. Harlow has a masterful way of creating characters I can identify with and want to befriend. I completely fell for Austin as he showed us how much his children are his whole world. It touched my heart when he and the kids brought Veronica into their family, and my heart positively melted when Austin and Veronica opened up to each other. The children are enchanting and full of fun. I’m looking forward to seeing them grow through the series. I enjoyed the sibling banter and competitiveness and the way they pulled together in a moment of need. I’m glad Austin has his brother Xander to help pull him out of his rut. This is a wonderful and touching story with plenty of heat and passion and I was a pile of goo when Austin finally realized “it happens only once”. I am looking forward to Xander and the rest of the siblings’ stories.

What a wonderful romping romance. Swoonworthy, definitely flawed, but still adorable hunk, with a beautiful...and never a pushover, beautiful girl unwilling to settle for any less than the right man to capture her world and heart.

This book was again, everything.
Veronica found out her fiancé is cheating on her minutes before she was going to get married.
She left him at the altar and made a runaway bride move.

She ends up at Cherry Tree Harbor, with nothing. No cash, no house, no clothes besides her wedding dress, nothing. She finds out that someone is looking for a nanny and that’s where she meets Archer, the grumpy single dad.
He tried but couldn’t resist the girl in the wedding dress begging for the job, and so it began.

The spice was top notch, the tension delicious and the story was overall sweet and entertaining.
I don’t know what it is with Melanie’s books but I devour the books in a day and I want to marry all the men, I’m in love.

This book was such an amazing surprise for me! I had it on my TBR for some time, but when I got the ARC for the sequel, Hideaway Heart, I decided to read this one before (my OCD doesn't do well with reading series out of order).
This is book 1 of Melanie Harlow's Cherry Tree Harbor series, which is a small town, family romance. The first book follows Austin, a single dad to the cutest seven-year-old twins, and Veronica, a runaway bride that becomes their nanny when she finds herself broke and with no place to go.
Apart from the initial shock of an overprotective father leaving his kids with a stranger (when you read it, it makes more sense), everything else about this book is amazing! The book is super funny, Austin's whole family is hilarious, including the twins, and the small town vibe is alwavs a favourite for me.
Throughout the book, Veronica rediscovers her strength and her worth, and I loved the way her relationship with Austin developed... They seem to understand each other and the way they help each other out is super cute! Austin also learns that putting himself first is important and I loved his backstory!
