THE TRUTH ABOUT TRUMP
He is one of the world’s most successful businessmen―and a man who many Americans love to hate. So how did Donald Trump become a serious contender in the race for the country’s highest office? His critics think his run for president is a marketing campaign for the Trump brand. His supporters believe that he can make America great again. The only thing both sides can agree on is that Trump is a man whose appetite for wealth, attention, power, and conquest is insatiable. In this up-close-and-personal biography, author Michael D’Antonio draws upon extensive and exclusive interviews with Trump himself to present the full story behind this American icon―from his early life to the headlines of today.

About the author

In the hours I spent with President Trump as I researched the biography The Truth About Trump he showed interest in me just once. He suggested that if I wrote a "good book" -- meaning one that pleased him -- I could make "millions." When I explained that a good biography served the reader and not the subject's whims, he replied, "Well, if that's how you see it..."
The way I see it is that the reader always comes first. I owe him/her clarity, precision, and a good story. All this is done with loyalty to the facts and respect for the complexities of human character in context.
Besides the influence of family and growing-up experiences in small town New Hampshire I have been most affected by two people I met in college, my wife Toni and my first mentor, writer Donald Murray. Both have encouraged me to express my creativity, connect with others, and find ways to serve. They understood intuitively what I later found expressed so well by Viktor Frankl in Man's Search for Meaning. Finally, I've found that if I don't take myself too seriously, and add a little silliness, it's a pretty good recipe.
Today I live in Long Island, not far from the sound. I have two grown daughters, Amy and Elizabeth, who have become the other great influences on my life.

- Reviewed in the United States on September 23, 2015Thanks to Pulitzer Prize winning reporter, Michael D'Antonio's clearly comprehensive and really readable bio here of "The Donald", we now know more than enough. We know why it appears very unlikely that there will ever be enough to satisfy Donald Trump. We also now know better why that should be a problem for US voters.
To understand better how and why this media phenomenon is almost singlehandledly, and at times perhaps unintentionally, turning modern US presidential politics on its head, read this unique and enjoyable book. Learn also how this billionaire is exposing, again perhaps unintentionally, why a few billionaires' control of US politics, so evident today, cannot, should not and will not survive much longer.
D'Antonio has done his homework thoroughly and well. He knows US national politics. He also understands The Donald, whom he personally interviewed extensively. He also knows how to share his perceptive insights in a great narrative fashion. His book is well written and hard to put down.
I thought that I, as an Ivy League educated Wall Street financial lawyer who also grew up near Trump in Queens NY in the 1950's and 1960's, understood a lot about Donald Trump. D'Antonio's book has shown me that I missed a lot. For that, I am very grateful to this diligent and thorough author for showing me this in such an informative, understandable and balanced manner.
All Americans are in D'Antonio's debt for explicating in a very timely fashion what is at stake in the 2016 US presidential election. If you care about who leads this country in the next four years and who will likely appoint the next four US Supreme Court Justices, you must read this book. I did and am glad I did.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 25, 2017D’Antonio pens an honest and balanced look at the man who is Donald Trump. For those people who don’t know much about Donald and want to learn about the man he is, I highly recommend this book. D’Antonio’s writing style is engaging and he makes a good effort to help the reader understand the complexities of the cooperate world Donald Trump is a part of.
The book starts with a preface written during the presidential campaign, and highlights not only Trump’s appeal to voters, but his personal characteristics. Trump will succeed or fail based on his character traits.
D’Antonio gives an overview of Trump’s paternal lineage, where the reader comes to understand Trump’s family background and how he’s applied what he’s learned from his father and brought it forward.
What is refreshing about Trump is that one can usually understand everything out of his mouth, and I think that’s the broad appeal.
Overall, “The Truth About Trump” is a very comprehensive look at a man who has positive and negative traits. He can be extremely generous with his time and money, but he demands loyalty to a fault and can be vindictive with his lawsuits. The book was a steady read that helped me to understand the man who is our current president. Out of the books I’ve read about Trump, this one was the easiest to comprehend and was written in an honest style. It ggave a candid assessment of the man himself. I would recommend this book to anyone who wanted to learn more about Donald Trump.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 18, 2016There is a lot in this book that is widely available for anyone who has been following Trump in the past year since he announced he was running for President in June 2015. It's all in one place which makes it incredibly valuable. It seems to be well balance. The view of what is available in the press matches that content with great accuracy which makes me think all the material that is covered about what is not in the press is probably also very accurate. The best part of the book is the chapter on Trumps setting up the golf course in Scotland. For anyone who has been harassed unfairly or had fraud committed against them, this is an excellent chapter to read. If the rest of the world were treated the way Trump behaved towards this small section of Scotland, we'd never recover our reputation. On page 345 there is a transcript of the opening lines when he announced his candidacy for the Presidency. They make Sarah Palin look reasonably understandable when she engaged in her worst word salad. The book is well written, filled with nuggets and a keeper in my collection of political books. The only thing I don't understand is that when I bought the book it was called "Never Enough," a title I like much better than "The Truth About Trump."
- Reviewed in the United States on October 12, 2015Outstanding subject matter; poorly crafted novel by Pulitzer Prize winner Michael D'Antonio. Reading this book is like going to the dentist. One trusts that the agony endured will eventually equate satisfaction in the end. Sadly, that is not the case here. The author clearly researched the phenomenon of Donald Trump but did not manage to compile the information in a readable manner. Instead, there are frequent ping-ponging of subjects that rambled off topic so often that it encouraged me to fast forward through the weeds to return to the salacious story of the man known as Donald Trump.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 13, 2020This man is an accomplished writer and cultural historian, and he delivers in this book. If someone is looking for a factually credible well written account about Donald Trump and his life as an adult, this is the book. I can't say enough about the author, he is magnificent. The rest is given and I leave the rest to you prospective folks out there about his subject. I offer nothing but high praise for Michael D'Antonio. Thanks for the opportunity.

5.0 out of 5 stars Insightful and explanatory.
Fascinating history of someone who is trying to make history. This book will give you an insight as to what kind of person has taken over the White House. Scary. No morals or ethics for this family... only winning. An honest and frighteningly sober look at the ingredients that went into forming the 45 POTUS

5.0 out of 5 stars Ottimo libro
La verità su un personaggio che imperversa oggi. Scritto prima delle elezioni negli USA, presenta la storia, le motivazioni e il modus operandi di... The Donald.

5.0 out of 5 stars One long well written account of dynastic corruption
Finely written with judicious anecdotes and perceptive character insights into grandfather, father and Donald Trump. My question is how did this insensitive and mediocre egotist become the President of the United States? Presumably we must thank ethnic hatred and the misjudgements of Vladimir Putin. Good Luck America.

4.0 out of 5 stars An even-handed, unauthorized biography
Worth the time and effort to get to know about the most "unusual" President of the USA.
