Product Description

The DVAG17L from Ashley Hearth Products makes the perfect solution for zoned heating. The space saving direct vent furnace design mounts to an exterior wall and the adjustable vent assembly adjusts to fit walls from 4-1/2 inches to 10 inches thick. For clean, comfortable heat when and where you want it, the gas flame is completely sealed inside, away from all contact with room air. Air necessary for combustion is drawn into the chamber from outside through the vent and combustion products are vented directly to the outside. Only clean, gentle heat, in continuous circulation is delivered into the room. Windows and doors stay closed because no room air is used for combustion. The DVAG17L furnace is designed to heat up to heat up to 570 Sq. Ft. and has an 17,000 BTU input.

This is perfect! I bought this for an addition I put on for my father to come live with me, he has alot of health issues and breathing issues. He also gets cold very easily now adays. I Knew it didn't come with a blower, but it also stays working when we lose power!! Big bonus!!! It's vented outside also great because of his health issues. It keeps his living area really toasty, sometimes too toasty. We don't set it anywhere above 3. It puts out lots of heat! It took a bit for me to get used to starting it, I wasn't used to the type of ignition on it, and it did have a weird smell for a few days that had to "burn off" some of it being dust. It happens with any heating source though. I installed it myself, except the propane hook ups I left to the professionals. It wasn't that hard. Yes, you have to cut a large hole in your wall, but measure a few times first and read through your directions carefully all the way through and you should be fine....also know where your electrical wires are in your walls and such. It is an absolute life saver!! We have lost power multiple times this year and for days at a time. My father can't be near wood stoves or pellet stoves, because of his breathing, I am so happy we got this. I will be trying to get more for my side of the house soon!

The people that said this thing puts off a little smell at first are lying. This thing puts off an overwhelming nauseating smell. I’ve had it going wide open for an hour and it’s still pumping out a horrible smell. I have my doors and windows open and a fan drawing air out and it’s so bad I can’t stay in my house. How they could let it leave the factory like this is ridiculous. I would strongly suggest hooking this thing up outside and burning this chemical smell off of it. I don’t know that I’ll ever get that smell out of my house. I can’t say anything about how well it works at the moment but, if this smell doesn’t burn off soon I will be sending it back because it must be defective.

So read many negative reviews on this heater but for me I have had no issues. It runs whisper quite. I’m using a 100 lb propane tank. Yes, you lose heat with outside exhaust but i did not want to add moisture to my shop space. I also had to extend the exhaust vent out 6 inches to be away from the siding which was easy job as the unit uses standard 4” vent pipe and uses the 7” intake as the insulation gap in the wall. Its a good design and puts out major heat inside. I put a small fan above the unit to help distribute the heat.

I bought this and it must take a hundred pushes to get pilot light lit. The igniter probably wont last long if that is the case. When it windy it gets blown out even if i lean a piece of plywood against the wall to protect it. I will probably have to build a windsheild around the vent. I use this in a shed and originally considered some for my house but i wont any more.

I waited to install knowing how important it was to have someone help with the process. To insure the unit is SAFELY installed you must carefully review and follow the installation instructions provided by the manufacturer. My nephew is a plumber and we are both very detail oriented.

We installed it in a 10’x16’ shed with 2”x4” fiberglass insulated wall, 11’ ceiling. The floor is not insulated. Location is NW Wisconsin so -20’ in winter is not uncommon. Intended use is home office and overflow sleep area for guests. I wasn’t sure about how large of a unit to order due to uninsulated floor so went with a bigger unit.

We both studied the installation instructions in advance. It took us a full day but it went well and the installed unit looked great. But take your time.

After 6-weeks of use I thought it was a good time to share feedback. I ordered a larger unit (17k), but 12k or 11k would have been more than enough for my needs. At the lowest setting with outside overnight temperature +10’-15’ degrees, the inside remains at 65’ degrees. This unit of course makes slight “ticking” sounds when heating, but that is 100% normal and caused by expansion/contraction of the steel heat exchanger.

Would I buy again? Absolutely. This was a bargain compared to other types of heaters like this. And the quality was very good.
