I love this thing! I use it to make pour-over, French press, iced coffee, hot tea, and iced tea --all with the same brewer. I also love the clean up --take out the filter and rinse the brewer, easy. Also, no special filters needed --you can buy the #4 filters anywhere, I get them at my local Trader Joe's for cheap.

As a self-professed coffee snob, I'm always searching for a "better method" to brew coffee. The term "better" includes both ease-of-use and the ability to control the brew time. Admittedly, I've bought many different gadgets including french presses, pour-overs, percolators, cold-brew contraptions, and even two different iterations of the Aeropress (regular and large versions).

When I read about the Clever Coffee Dripper, I was sceptical. However, it was apparent this brewing system would give me the ability to control the strength of the extraction without the distraction of a messy clean-up and expensive filters.

Simply put, once you "dial-in" the grind size and the amount of coffee to use, the only other variable (besides the temperature of the water) is the time you allow the grounds to steep before draining your coffee into your large 12-16 ounce cup/mug. No wimpy 5-8 ounce sippy cup when you use the Clever Coffee Dripper.

Afterward, just fold-up the filter (and grounds), toss into the trash (or recycle into your compost pile), quickly rinse the dripper, wipe dry, and you're done.

The final PLUS for the Clever Coffee Dripper ... you can purchase the #4 filters for a fraction of the cost of proprietary filters required for many of the other specialized coffee makers. WHAT'S NOT TO LIKE?

Just starting my coffee brewing journey. Have the v60 and wanted this as a substitute for French Press. Best of both worlds between pour over and press. Really easy to use and experiment with different grind sizes and brew times. Seems very durable and works well with my favorite mug. Filters are good. Remember to rinse with hot water just like v60 papers.

I’m a home roaster and am always looking for how to make better coffee. I usually use the aero press, often the inverted method to produce a better immersion breadth to the taste. I want to like pour overs but they just don’t give me what I want in a dark roast. This clever thing is amazing. I have the breadth of the French press without the sludge or cloudiness. It seems too easy but even with a Mexican Decaf that I roast I get a smooth, rich, dark roasted cup of coffee, clear and with no sludge. I’m pleasantly surprised that I have this new toy that is so satisfying.

I bought this after watching James Hoffmann’s YouTube video about his Clever technique, which varies significantly from Clever’s own. The biggest change is pouring the water into the brewer first, then adding the coffee and stirring gently until all the coffee is wet.

It’s brilliant. Like a French press without the risk of sludge or over-extraction. The draw-down takes only a minute and the flavor, texture and clarity are all amazing.

If you’ve got a Clever, give Hoffmann’s technique a try.

If you don’t, I can tell you you won’t regret getting one: brews great coffee with minimal fuss.

I have now used my Large Clever coffee dripper almost daily for 6 months. I love the ability to hold coffee in the funnel for dialing in brew time. With some experimentation (along with grind size and water temperature), you can get the best flavor out of any type of coffee. It might seem a little pricey for a plastic funnel that only makes one cup at a time, but this design totally blows away any other pour over funnel. Yes, you can use it as a regular pour over, but the flexibility to hold coffee brewing longer opens up the ability to modify extraction to optimize flavor from any roast level or origin.

The valve and plate mechanism are not as easy to clean as a regular pour over funnel, but I just rinse well after each use and take apart once a week (easy to remove valve gasket) for thorough cleaning. I would not put this in a dishwasher with an electric heating element for drying since it is plastic and because you would need to take it apart for dishwasher spray to reach all areas. It's just easier to handwash.

I recommend a transparent color funnel to see the water level more easily. I also recommend using Hario V60 Size 3 White Paper Coffee Filters -- the cone shape fits perfectly in the Large (18oz) Dripper when you fold the point, they're less expensive than other quality Japanese paper filters, and there is no dust or off flavors imparted.

I rarely rate any products 5/5 stars, but if you like good coffee at home, I can't recommend this product highly enough!

I have been using a Chemex for several years to make my daily morning coffee. I came across this product and decided to give it a try. I like the fact that it is simple and easy to use and the coffee it makes is actually quite good, maybe even better than the Chemex. The drawback I think is it is quite pricey and it is made of plastic and not glass. I would have given it a 5-star otherwise.

I would recommend using a mug. If using a glass mug, make sure it is boro silicate, which can handle the temperature change!
