- Reviewed in the United States on June 30, 2023This is the latest in a series of books whose aim is to significantly alter the mindset of a key stakeholder in the U.S. healthcare equation: folks who advise employers on how to design and implement group health insurance plans. They wield tremendous power and greatly influence another key stakeholder: employers whose plans cover nearly 180 million working Americans. The trouble is that too many of them have bought into a perverse system that has perpetuated wasteful spending and lined the pockets of third parties without any transparency. The authors are collectively calling for revolutionary thinking in the way employee benefit advisers need to approach the emergence of point solutions that are finally disrupting this space. A key element is to steer employee populations to high-quality care that will invariably lower their cost, which has proven to be the biggest P&L expense other than payroll in most organizations. As a journalist who has covered the benefits space for 35 years and counting, I consider books like these to be required reading for those in the industry who sincerely want to help their clients bend the healthcare cost curve. Kudos to Nelson Griswold and his team of industry experts for helping move the needle on what has become one of the most important issues of our lifetime. The difference advisers can make in following the template suggested in this book may be a matter of life or death for the employee populations that they serve. The time has come to make U.S. healthcare affordable and accessible so that average working Americans no longer need to choose between going to the doctor of putting food on the table.

This books is a great resource for Employee Benefit Advisors and Employers who are seeking innovative solutions that enable the employer to provide the best employee benefits while reducing healthcare costs for the organization and its employees. Filled with real life examples and the names of those who are leading the way.

- Reviewed in the United States on June 27, 2023Bravo! I like how this book points out solutions - real solutions to the decades-long issues in our country's "healthcare" system. While there are still egregious billing issues and profiteering practices taking place every day, there is a subset of benefits advisors and service providers that are indeed part of the solution. Real solutions to real (but not necessary) problems.
