- Reviewed in the United States on February 13, 2025useful reference for dealing with many heretical beliefs and movements.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 22, 2024This book is very thorough exposing most of the popular religious cults that don't follow the Bible as directed by the Holy Spirit. Most of these cults come off as authoritative but have no scholarship whatsoever, and mind control their followers.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 16, 2024I first read this book when it was published in 1973. Now, this 6th edition is so comprehensive and is a must for anyone concerned about a friend or relative involved in a suspected religion.
I have given as gifts to help people in their cult struggle.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 19, 2020I used this book as a reference in the long ago past, but didn't have my own copy. I recognized it as logical, authoritative, & very useful at that time. I have often referred other people to it in the years since, whenever there was a question about the legitimacy of some quasi-Christian group.
I recently purchased & read this updated Kindle version. Some sections were new information because of the update; some sections were new to me because they were not a reference that I needed before.
I am more impressed than ever of Walter Martin's knowledge & skill as a researcher & writer, & his thoroughness with each chapter. But I'm also impressed that his thoroughness comes from a genuine love for lost souls affected by cults. He not only lays out what the cults' errors are, but also where they depart from biblical Christianity. He also makes recommendations on effective approaches to individuals from each group.
I'm glad that this work continues to go on & the book continues to be updated after Walter Martin's passing.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 5, 2019Excellent and in-depth review of all major and many minor non-Judeo-Christian religions. Catholocism and Judiasm are about the only major religions left out, as the author reviews the history of each religion and how they differ from Biblical Christianity and how they contradict themselves. For example, the author takes great care to point out the absurdity of Jehovah's Witnesses insisting that there is only one God, JHVH, but also insist that Jesus was A god- both how there's no evidence in John 1:1 for the article and the contradiction of saying there's one God but also a (different) mighty God. I've used this info many times in discussing beliefs with others. This can't save someone, only God can change a heart, but it can remove mental stumbling blocks. It's a big read, but all straight info- no fluff.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 20, 2023Already have a copy, but bought this for my church. It addresses errors in every major cult and even has a chapter on Islam. It will strengthen your faith through logic and reason. Every Christian should be familiar with this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Precise and accurate
This is a much needed book on this topic. In the confusion of cults we currently face, every christian needs to be informed and prepared to assess the impact of those countefeit doctrines. Dr. Walter Martin is a world famous expert on this subject and has produced several books on the same topic. I strongly recommend this volume. Although it is a massive one, it can be read according to the personal need on a specific cult and will compensate the time spent.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great overview
The book compares various belief systems with Christianity. It shows exactly where they don't align with scripture. It uncovers exactly how some of those cults disguise themselves as 'christian', while in fact they are very anti-christian. Very good read.
