Spirit Guide: A Gaslamp Ghost Mystery Volume 3 (Madame Chalamet Ghost Mysteries) Kindle Edition

4.7 4.7 out of 5 stars 244 ratings

Missing girls and a killer back from the grave.

When a nobleman’s daughter goes missing, Elinor Chalamet and Archambeau rush to discover who has kidnapped her and why.

Saddled with a bumbling apprentice, a drunken soldier, and a prickly nobleman who won’t explain why he hasn’t paid a proper call, Elinor must confront her past with the Morpheus Society who trained her as a medium.

But answers can only be found in the Beyond, and that’s a place where ghosts walk and where mediums who overstay their welcome are driven insane.

Elinor Chalamet uses her wits and her ghost-talking skills to hunt for her father’s killer in Alenbonné, a coastal city where ghosts walk at all hours. The third of a six-part gaslamp fantasy ghost mystery series featuring a Sherlock Holmes-like female character in a slow burn romance.

Editorial Reviews

From the Author

Can I start the series with this book?
Being book three in the series, it's important to have read Delicious Death 2 and Ghost Talker 1, to fully enjoy the worldbuilding and characters. There are also a few spoilers in this book for the previous two.

What's special about this one?
From a Sherlock Holmes perspective, overall this (so far) is my favorite mystery-adventure in the series. Things happen very fast in this story and it is a non-stop ride to the end.

When will Elinor and Tristan get together?
Elinor and Tristan's growing attraction for each other results in some satisfying scenes in Spirit Guide which sets the scene for the more romantic Gray Lady book that follows.

What is the Morpheus Society?
The Morpheus Society is an intellectual group of amateurs who study the paranormal using scientific methods. Like many of the amateur science organizations operating in our 1800's, the Morpheus Society was founded by an aristocrat with money to study the supernatural. They trained Elinor as a medium and in Spirit Guide we meet her mentor as well as a former rival.

What is your favorite scene in this story?
Scene-wise it would be the ending where Elinor demonstrates that while she might be at the mercy of her enemy she is never defenseless. From a reader and writer's standpoint there is nothing as satisfying as a great ending.

When will Elinor discover her father's killer?
The myth-arc deals with the murder of Elinor's father, so every book drops hints about the case. Each story will bring us closer to the truth of what happened, who did it, and why. However, the resolution won't be until the last book, Ghastly Mistake.

What is Gaslamp fantasy?
Gaslamp is a niche genre within Steampunk, with the plot emphasis more on the romance. In this edition of the series, Elinor and Tristan finally get their mutual attraction out in the open, even while busy on their investigation.

How long is the story?
This is a fast-paced novella, at about 45,000 words. As Elinor's story continues, the first three stories will be novellas, the last three will be book-sized.

👻 Spirit Guide 🦄Madame Chalamet Ghost Mysteries Volume 3✒️ Byrd Nash🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟Will her desire for answers lead her to a fatal mistake …When after signing up for the advance copy of this book, I learned it would be delivered for the end of this week-end, I was fingers crossed hoping it would be in time for me to read it in between two other books. So it became my Sunday/Monday late and early read.Once more Elinor and the Duke of de Archambeau band together to discover who is behind a lady’s disappearance.Their tempers clash and sparks fly, fueled by months of pent-up emotions.Still there are so many dents and holes paving their road, a happily ever after is not yet on the table. And while the mystery and its culprit were easy to pick up, the murderer was quite surprising as was Elinor’s unconventional rescue.Elinor is her usual self, resilient, determined and driven with a Tristan breathing his usual hot and cold, oscillating between wanting to struggle or hugging her.The third wheel in this case is Twyla, Elinor’s new appointed apprentice, a walking babbling disaster with a certain knack. An entertaining continuation of this series which test our dear characters’ toughness and quick thinking.5 stars𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹 a kiss

I enjoyed reading this book. I found myself wondering what the next page would reveal. I like the fact that the author has included some interesting details about the time period also.

I simply cannot get enough of this enthralling series, and I eagerly anticipate the next installment. In Spirit Guide, the third entry in Byrd Nash's captivating Madame Chalamet Ghost Mysteries series, the excitement continues to escalate.

I appreciate the introduction of an apprentice for Madame Chalamet in this installment. The question remains whether this new character will prove as captivating and entertaining as her mentor. Elinor's character has grown increasingly bold with each volume, and her fearlessness may ultimately land her in perilous situations. Will Tristan, her Duke, be able to rescue her in time? Madame Chalamet's intriguing blend of qualities reminiscent of an older Nancy Drew or a female Sherlock Holmes renders her characterization familiar yet consistently surprising. Witnessing her frustration with Tristan highlights the undeniable chemistry between the two characters.

Elinor's unique ability to communicate with ghosts is both her gift and her curse, continually drawing her into danger. As a gaslamp fantasy, this series conjures vivid imagery of period clothing and the potential for stunning costume designs if adapted into a film or television series. As a fervent fan of the series, I cannot help but hope for this genre to gain renewed popularity. Moreover, the presence of a strong female protagonist who does not require saving, but rather takes on the role of savior, serves as an excellent role model for young girls everywhere. Once again, I thoroughly enjoyed this installment and cannot wait for the next one!

Once again, author Byrd Nash astonishes readers with her exceptional writing skills and her ability to paint vivid pictures in their minds through masterful descriptions and dialogues. The suspense and thriller elements woven into the plot are expertly crafted, presenting twists and turns that continually surprise and challenge expectations.

To fully appreciate the story and its characters, it is crucial to read this series in order. Jumping into this installment without prior knowledge of the previous books may leave readers feeling as though they are missing crucial context. One of the series' strengths is the character development that unfolds from one book to another, adding depth and nuance to the reading experience.

Spirit Guide is not only a mystery but also an adventure, with a multitude of events unfolding throughout the narrative. To fully grasp the intricacies of the plot, attentive reading is essential. This novel is meticulously crafted, ensuring that no loose threads lead to confusion. Every aspect has been thoughtfully considered to create a believable and captivating story.

I highly recommend reading this book, following the previous two installments, as it consistently surprises readers with each turn of the page. Unlike predictable stories that can bore readers with their foreseeable outcomes, Spirit Guide keeps readers engaged and eager to uncover what comes next.

I strongly recommend reading the first two books, as they seamlessly connect to this one, creating a mesmerizing world. Elinor Chalamet and Tristan Fontaine join forces once more, taking readers on an enthralling journey into a realm of mystery and past connections. Having read the previous two books in the series, I am delighted to find that this one surpasses my expectations. Elinor's wit and penchant for playing with fire make her a fascinating character. She defies Tristan's orders, leading to engaging and enjoyable banter between the two. I appreciate the gradual progression of their relationship, which unfolds at a delightful pace. The storyline is incredibly intriguing, filled with adventure and unexpected twists until the very end. Elinor's pursuit of her father's killer adds another layer of suspense to the series.

Elinor's character as a strong female protagonist is my favorite aspect of the series. She fearlessly confronts danger to ensure the safety and justice of others, making her an admirable figure. Spirit Guide is a fast-paced read that left me eager for more of this mystical world. I highly recommend securing a copy and immersing yourself in this extraordinary experience.
