Candice Pedraza Yamnitz is a homeschooling mom, author, and teacher. She taught in an elementary dual-language classroom for seven years before having her three spirited children. She mentored teen girls for years and aims to inspire through stories. In 2017, she joined the American Christian Fiction Writers (ACFW) to improve her craft, and she has served as president of the Chicago chapter. Her work has placed in four contests.

Her writing contains a Latin twist which comes from her Puerto Rican and Mexican upbringing. She also adds a heavy dollop of mystery and sometimes an extra helping of romance. She fell in love with Lord of the Rings and Pride and Prejudice in high school and hasn’t stopped reading since. In between reading lessons and converting cardboard boxes into pirate ships, she writes and illustrates fantasy stories. She lives in her native Chicagoland.

My kids were excited when I pulled out this book as they've read another great chapter book by this author before. My 9 and 10-year-old girls loved this book, though younger kids could enjoy it as well. Now, we just need to find them their own mouse princess so they can have a tiny pen pal. ;)

The cutest exchange of letters between two sassy young writers who aren't sure if they should be friends or not. I wish this book had been around when my kids were a few years younger, as they were obsessed with books about mice. They would have loved it! I really like how this book highlights the give-and-take nature of friendship, and teaches kindness and generosity.

I enjoyed reading about Veva and watching her learn about being kind. I look forward to sharing this story with my daughter one day. I received a free e edition of the book from the author. I enjoyed the sweet illustrations. The reflection/discussion questions at the end were a lovely added touch. It would make a great gift for a young girl. :)
