The Daily Grind 3: A Slice-of-Life LitRPG Kindle Edition
You might think a month away from fighting sentient cubical supplies in a threatening alt-reality office would mean a break for James Lyle. But . . . you’d be wrong. Even though James has taken a beat from adventuring into the dungeon hidden within the stairwell of his workplace, he’s been dealing with plenty of stress-inducing issues, from raising a recently corporeal infomorph to navigating his newly minted relationship with his best friends, fighting his own depression, and wrestling with the moral implications of his burgeoning powers.
Meanwhile, James, Anesh, and Alanna are searching for other dungeons to explore—to worrying results. While they’ve been seeking out more of the magical zones, it seems those very places have been looking for them in return. Now it’s time for James and his crew to go back into the office dungeon, no matter the danger. Because it appears the latest world they’ve stumbled upon is starting to fight back—and they might be the only ones standing between humanity and some rather gruesome deaths.
The brilliant, hilarious, and moving blend of slice of life, role-playing games, progression fantasy, world-building, and office snark continues with the unputdownable third entry in the Daily Grind series.
The third volume of the hit LitRPG fantasy series—with more than four million views on Royal Road—now available in paperback, ebook, and audiobook!

About the author
I'm a fantasy and science fiction author with an interest in how those stories can explore the scope of human emotion and society. I balance out this high minded goal by making settings that are a little absurd, and often very silly. In writing this biography, I also realized I still don't know if it's supposed to be in third or first person, and if this sentence made you chuckle, you'll probably enjoy at least a little of what I like to write.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 23, 2023The first book in this series was an innovative dungeon crawl, a fun idea combining the mundane and the fantastical. The characters were relatable, the humor was absurd, and I was ready for more of the same.
The second book gave me that, but also added unreliability to the narration, a character going through as many mental and emotional pitfalls as physical ones, a burgeoning queer romance, and an amazing rescue. And I was ready for more of the same.
This third book takes the story into another iteration, continuing with the mundane, fantastical, and absurd, dealing with trauma and loss, comforting the audience with a reliable central relationship, but also allowing the main character a chance to explain his goal - to change the world for the better. The progression is from the self to the tribe, and now to the world.
And I am ready for more of the same, but I am no longer expecting it.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 3, 2024Things are getting hairy. Paper men outside of the dungeon. Other dungeons popping up or have already been
Our group is growing in strength and understanding how to Leverage their dungeons. An interesting take on lit RPG it's nice to see one that doesn't feature the stats and skills numbers so much but rather has the group growing in incremental and sometimes bizarre ways
- Reviewed in the United States on February 6, 2024The scope begins to shift as James & Co become more than just a small ragtag group of delvers exploring one dungeon. Their relationships deepen and broaden as everyone comes into their own and they start asking the big questions of life, Life, power, and the ethical uses of it... and they start to not just delve for personal power, but to *build*.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 27, 2023The third entry in the Daily Grind series does not disappoint. James, Alanna, and Anesh(s) continue their exploration of the office themed dungeon located in the building in which James works, this time with the help of a much larger group. Many of those who were rescued from the dungeon have chosen to help, basically forming a dungeon delving guild. Outside of their dungeon, they work to help the survivors, and they begin to search for other magical areas in the world. Theirs can't be the only one, right?
I enjoyed this installment. A large portion of the novel takes place outside the dungeon. The magical world has expanded, providing new lore and some interesting environments. I still adore the friendship/relationship between the main characters, and you get a bit more character growth for several others in this entry as well. The poly romance is different from much of what I've read before, but it's still sweet and based in friendship. It's clear that there is still much more story to be told here, and I will be on the lookout for what comes next.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 21, 2023Things have been kind of hectic for our hero ever since he discovered the hidden world at his office. And as much as he would love to take a break, the discovery of more dungeons with even bigger challenges spurs him forward. After all, if he doesn't then the world might end and no one will ever get a break again.
This is book three of the series, but it does pretty well as a standalone. You will be missing a bit of background, but the essential bits are covered early on.
This is a cross between a litRPG and urban fantasy story. I loved the premise.
Rather than our hero and his companions being transported to a fantasy world, they find a modern office setting that has come alive. The story is well written and easy to read with a setting that would be very familiar if it weren't for the animated office furniture. The characters are nicely done and fit really well into the story. The plot itself includes a nice blend of office humor and RPG action and moves along at a nice pace. Overall, I found this to be a highly entertaining story and I definitely look forward to more from this author.
Highly recommended.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 29, 2024This book continues the trend of the plot slowing down. Lots of long conversations, constant point of view changes and philosophical rambling all combine to ruin this story for me. The universe and magic are incredible. I’m honestly torn on if I should read the next one
- Reviewed in the United States on February 16, 2024Well written.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 20, 2023I really enjoyed the third book in this series. The characters have overcome some major challenges in the last book and this one contains several logical extensions of those challenges. The author also manages an expanding cast of key characters quite well.
