That First Flight: A Single Mom Romance (Firsts In The City Book 3) Kindle Edition

4.5 4.5 out of 5 stars 921 ratings

Something tells me that nothing I do can stop myself from falling for my roommate.

I’ve always wanted to be a chef.

But the same day two pink lines showed up on the test, was the day I gave up chasing my own dreams to put my daughter first.

I didn’t expect that to lead to a life of being scrutinized by my parents for every single move I made.

After years of it, I was done.

I caught the first flight to New York. I was already filled with nerves before we even took off until a stranger with an infectious smile, heartbreaker blue eyes and a personality that can light up anyone's life, took the seat next to me.

Months later, the same man shows up at my bar in a small town in the mountains. This time he’s eager to learn more about me.

I thought telling him I have a daughter would make him run back home, except now I find myself as his new roommate in the city.

I told myself I wasn’t going to get involved with him.
I told myself that I’m here to live out my dream of being a chef.
But somewhere along the way, he stole my heart.
And if I had to take a guess… It was back when we took
that first flight.

Macey + Oliver5⭐️2🌶️✨single mom✨golden retriever/billionaire✨found family✨forced proximity✨no third act breakupokay so, we can all agree Oliver and Macey are the best, right?so, Macey has some “baggage” and her past brought about some emotions in me 🥲 She is truly the SWEETEST FMC. She is just so happy to be HERE and living her life on her terms with her adorable daughter who is so grown for her own good because wow their family is terrible. 🥲What resiliant queens. I love these girls. And they must be protected at all costs.Oliver. Sir. Why are you so cute? He is obsessed and loves to learn for his girls. And wow, cannot love that any more. Learning to cook? Yes. Teaching Mackenzie how to use his camera? Also yes. He is probably my favorite brother 🤭 shhh. Don’t tell the others.The texting game is STRONG in this book. I love texting in books snd between the boys and the girls, the need is met. 🥰Lastly. The spice. It was so nicely written 😮‍💨 These two have chemistry and it was approached in such a sweet and dirty way. 10/10.of all the First’s, this book was definitely more emotional, in the best way.

Jenn McMahon does it again with a spicy, swoon worthy novel. I fell in love with Macy instantly and could absolutely relate. But Oliver….oooofff 😮‍💨 he is my new favorite book boyfriend obsession and I’m determined to find one of him in real life.

“A fleeting sunset is proof that no matter what happens during the day, or how bad it was, every day can end beautifully, leaving behind whatever weighed you down”

That quote right there-is everything!!! 🤌

Macy is a young single mom who has lived with narcissistic parents her entire life and is determined to find a better life herself and daughter McKenzie. On a flight escaping her toxic life a handsome man sits next to her who makes her feel instantly calm and makes her laugh. With the hustle of getting off the plane they never exchange phone numbers. But fate was in their favor and several months later their paths cross. Not only do their paths cross but an unexpected opportunity is given to Macy & her daughter and she takes a leap of faith to move to the big city of New York to chase her dreams as a chef.

“No more rock bottoms, dragonfly. Welcome to the Top of the Rock. This is where you stay for a good time.”

This story will brighten your day no matter what you’re going through in life. And this review is coming from a woman who is in the thick of a nasty divorce from a narcissist…simply this book is exactly what I needed. Jenn has an incredible way of grasping your attention from the beginning and leaving you with wanting more.

The amount of spicy level this book contained…phew it was good is ALLLLLL I have to say! 😮‍💨🤌

It was heartwarming, humorous, witty, spicy and romantic all in one. I loved every minute of this book and couldn’t recommend this book and her entire series more.
Well done babe, well done! 👏🏻

I love when you start a book by a new author and you are hooked from the first few pages.
This was such a sweet story about Macey and Oliver who first meet on a flight to NYC.
Macey had her daughter Mackenzie when she was 16, and had been living in Montana with her parents. She knew it was time to break out on her own so she packed their bags and headed to NY where she hopes to live out her dream of becoming a chef.
Oliver is the handsome man who happens to sit next to her on their flight. He is cute and charming and is flying back to NY where he lives. These two strike up a friendship and hope to swap numbers but it never happens.
Fast forward a few months and they run into to each other when Oliver is traveling for work. He convinces Macey and Mackenzie to come to the city with him where she can fulfill her dreams.
Oliver was such a swoony MMC! He fell hard for Macey from the start and just wanted to help her achieve her goals.
Macey was filled with anxiety and doubt and just wanted a better life for her daughter. She couldn't believe Oliver would want to be with them both.
These two were so good together and they always communicated how they felt. I loved how his family immediately took her in and made her feel at home. And the build up for the next book is so good!

That First Flight is perfection. I did not want this book to end.

Macey dreamed of becoming a chef in New York; however, after having her daughter Mackenzie, she had to pivot and move back in with her parents. After years of dealing with unsupportive parents, Macey heads to New York for a better life for her and Mackenzie. While on the plane, she meets Oliver, who sits in the seat next to her. Although they lost each other after the flight, their meeting made a lasting impact on them both. Sometime later, Owen runs into Macey at the restaurant she works at outside the city.

Oliver and Macey are so cute together! Oliver fell HARD for Macey and wanted to see Macey be successful and reach her goals. He doesn't push his wealth in her face but does invite her to move to the city with him while she works towards her dream of becoming a chef. He is so thoughtful and genuine. Oliver and Macey's chemistry was off the charts, and the way Oliver did things to show his feelings for Macey had me swooning like crazy. I loved how he tried to guess Macey's middle name—those moments made me laugh out loud. I loved so much about this book -- Oliver & Mackenzie's relationship, the supportive friendships (found family), Macey's development throughout the story, Mackenzie's wish 🥹, the banter, and the mother/daughter relationship between Macey and Mackenzie. The epilogue was so sweet! The cliffhanger though...everything was just SO good!

I truly adored this book and will absolutely read everything Jenn McMahon writes. That First Flight is one of my favorite books of 2024!

“ Macey Evans is quickly becoming a weakness I’m not sure I can fight off. “

Macy and Oliver during a flight that is about to change everything for Macy. She found the encourage to live her life behind and her over bearing parents who have been controlling her life and her daughters, Mackenzie.

“Don’t dim that sparkle you have inside of you for anyone.”

Their connection is immediate but they lose each other after they leave the plane. Oliver is a photographer who travels the world and months later he finds himself in a small town staying at his brothers cabin. He didn’t expect to find Macy working at the local bar but now that he found her again, he takes the opportunity to learn more about her.

“I may have kinda-sorta… brought her home with me.”

After learning her goals, he realizes that he can help and reaches out to get her a dream interview and offers to let her and her daughter stay in the city with him. I love how strong and determined Macy is to give her and her daughter a better life. The journey isn’t even especially with her self doubts but their ending is so well deserved.

I love Jenn’s books because the banter is top tier and I always find myself sporting a goofy grin. I love how the ladies embrace Macy and bring her into their girl gang. I enjoyed catching up with the man and seeing them razz Oliver.

“Trust me, dragonfly… I’d love nothing more than to keep you to myself.”

Lastly, I absolutely adored the effort that Oliver put into getting to know Mackenzie. There is always something so special about seeing a character connect with a child and you know that it is coming from a genuine place.

Read this book because you will get the perfect dose of:

* golden retriever billionaire
* found family
* epic girl gang friendship
* roommates + forced proximity
* no third act breakup
* swoony with the right amount of spice

This is the third book in this series and the first one I read. Did it get me all excited to read the first two books? Yes. Why? Because the writing style, the softness with the perfect smile and n number of moments that made me swoon. I want them more.

Macey wanted to be a chef but when she got pregnant at just 16, she knew she had to give up her dream. But she wants to give her daughter the life she deserves. She decided to move to a small town, for a fresh start, to break off old strings and build connects that keep her and her daughter safe and happy. What she didn’t know is that she will end up meeting her “seat husband” after 5 months, only this time he wants to know more.

Oliver does what his heart wants. What his heart doesn’t want? Is to settle down. To find someone who makes him stay. But Macey is what’s different this time. Her and her daughter. Because know Macey and Kenzie are living with him in his New York Apartment and all he wants to do is give everything.

I number of times I have swooned throughout this book is crazy, the perfectly created tension and spice just wanted me to read more and more. This book is the perfect example of why I like books that I like (books that aren’t dark romance) the build up, the connection, the efforts, falling for not only her but also her daughter. THE SWIFTIE MOMENTS. I enjoyed this book throughout and this is one of those books that I want to revisit, that I want to hold on to, the book that I want on my shelf.
