Bees can't ride bicycles, penguins can't play ping-pong, and zebras can't go zip-lining. No one is good at everything, but that shouldn't stop you from trying! Here is a funny and encouraging picture book for any child learning how to tie their shoes, ride a bike, spell their name, or do a variety of new things.

Follow a hilarious alphabet of animals, and see all the things they can't do but kids can—from doing gymnastics to flipping pancakes to playing a xylophone. Along the way, young readers will learn that it's okay if they can't do everything; they can still have a LOT of fun trying.

Review

"The implicit value of trying new things with a good attitude in order to learn is augmented by the silliness of the colorful cartoon drawings, which add a positive objective to the overall message.” —Kirkus Reviews

An Instant Winner with Kids!!!!

An Instant Winner with Kids!!!!
I just read this book today with a group of kids ages 4-7 in an outdoor classroom, and the kids absolutely loved it!!! They liked guessing the animal on each page and talking about why animals might not be able to do certain things. The ziplining zebra was a crowd favorite as well as of course the star of the book: the T-Rex. The words in the manuscript sing and the illustrations make the quirky ideas pop right off the page with attention getting colors and hilarious details. And here's the way I knew the book was a winner--right after I read it and put it in my wagon, a kid snuck the book out of my wagon to go through the pages all over again.

My children (6 & 4) really enjoyed reading this book together. It does not have a continuous story but each page has a fun illustration and a blurb for that image's letter using the letter's sound multiple times. It's nice because often alphabet books will use one word for the letter on that page, so I've found this one more reinforcing. Plus the cute humor had my kiddos giggling.

My 8yo loves this book, and so do I! It's a fun ABC book about various things certain animals can't do (all of which are things little kids may feel frustrated they can't do yet), but the message is that it's okay that everyone is different. The artwork is delightful, and at the end there is a sweet image of animals that can do certain things helping the animals that can't do certain things. Very sweet, very funny book!

My kids are and I are obsessed with T-REXES CAN'T TIE THEIR SHOES. It's an ABC book, a book about the frustration of not being able to do things, and it's hilarious. My 5 yo laughed so hard at every page. I can't get over Steph's fantastic illustrations! I foresee myself saying "T. Rexes can't tie their shoes" when my son gets frustrated about not being able to do something.

From an adorable message to zany illustrations, this little alphabet book has it all! My favorite page reads "Urchins can't open umbrellas." Every time I open this one, I find something new and delightful:) It is absolutely perfect for the home or classroom.

We love this story. It's fun and works on so many levels. My kids love to guess what animal will be next and it has great re readability. The illustrations are brilliant and aside from being a fun story, it also shows children that they don't have to be able to do EVERYTHING - a really important message.

Highly recommended, a great addition to your collection!
