Review
The Language of Dogs is simply the best resource on the market for dog trainers, owners, and others who seek to enhance their knowledge and understanding of canine body language.
-- Pat Miller Author of Positive Dog Training and Positive Perspectives. Love Your Dog, Train Your Dog
Sarah has identified a broad range of postural communication signals and taken the interpretation of them to a whole new level. Being able to see multiple examples of each behavior is highly valuable as is the discussion of the distinction between behaviors that might superficially look the same. Sarah presents her information in a warm and funny manner. This DVD set would be valuable for anyone who wants to gain a better understanding of how dogs communicate stress, and distance increasing/decreasing behaviors.
--James O Heare Author of Canine Aggression Workbook, Dominance Theory and Dogs
Sarah's Language of Dogs DVDs are exceptional. I'll watch them again and again and again. You are a gifted teacher, too. I highly recommend the DVDs

This DVD is simple and to the point.
It had information even I did not know despite my time as a professional dog trainer, CGC evaluator, and rescue shelter worker.
A good investment for anyone interested in understanding how dogs communicate and subtle ways you can alter your physical behavior to communicate back.
This is not a glitzy, professional production. It’s not even as well done as many youtube videos, but the content has me returning over and over. Sarah Kalnajs talks about signs of stress, lower levels that suggest they are stressed, higher levels that warn of imminent actions. She explains clustering of signals. She alters my interpretation of yawning, lip licking, and freezes. I realize now that he suffers in part from neophobia, a fear of all new situations due to his being poorly socialized as a puppy. I also now watch my other, much better socialized dog, who has her own set of communication strategies.
Kalnajs differentiates stress signals from calming signals and distance decreasing signals. There is much more in this lengthy video production. She describes signals and body language and complements the discussion with actual. I now walk my dog watching him for any signs of stress but I also watch approaching dogs to see if they are also demonstrating the same language.
After watching this twice I picked up two additional copies for friends. Anyone adopting or fostering a rescue dog needs this, but anyone with a difficult-to-train dog will certainly benefit.
As for the topics covered, Ms. Kalnajs breaks down basic dog body language and presents video footage demonstrating the behaviors along with lot's of advice on assessment and accompanying anecdotal information. (Her method of assessment involves 4 people... primary handler, secondary handler, trained videographer and note taker, incidentally - - this method obviously contributed a great deal in her ability to present the topic.)
I especially appreciate her use of many different breeds and situations... I also like her ability to "digress" in an appropriate yet focused manner... and ability to point out the obvious and less than obvious, though my life will never be the same now that words like "penis crowning" and "uro-genital check" have been entered into my vocabulary by an Ann Coulter look-a-like...
All in all, I can't think of any resource like this on the market... This and AM I SAFE definitely belong in any dog handler / enthusiasts library - - hope more will be coming.
