- Reviewed in the United States on February 16, 2015Perfect for the beginner who has no musical knowledge. This book takes you through simple lessons in a step by step approach, in 29 lessons, with lesson 30 being the Student Test.
Lesson 1 begins the student on a basic understanding of the staff (lines and spaces).
Lesson 2 Treble and Bass clefs has the student drawing and naming the clefs.
Each lesson builds upon the one prior until the student is able to understand the notes associated with the lines and spaces on a staff in regard to bass or treble clef, as well as the note values, rests, dotted notes, ledger lines, repeat signs, ties, slurs, eighth notes, flats, sharps and so on.
The top half of each page is the lesson, while the bottom section is for the student to put to practice the information. As the book progresses, lesson reviews are incorporated in the form of sheet music. The student will complete different sets of instructions based on prior lessons, such as: write the beats or rests under the notes, or write the letter names under each note.
This book has been around a long time, and was the same book I used in elementary school to learn music. I highly recommend it because of its simply laid out lessons, and easy to follow instructions. It is organized in a way that takes the student gradually through each step of the process.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 17, 2019I've been using this series of books with my music students for over a decade and I've found it's the best way to introduce students to music theory. It's been especially helpful with older students, including adult learners who never learned to read. The lessons are short and simple with specific, concise exercises to ensure students understand concepts before moving on. I highly recommend this simple series to any teachers or students interested in learning to read music.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 28, 2013It is nearly impossible to find a good music theory workbook for younger students but after years of searching, I finally found the Master Theory series for students from preteens to adults. This series is a 6 book anthology with 30 lessons in each book, covering all the essential elements from beginning theory to advanced harmony and arranging. It is ideal for music teachers or for general music classes. The only drawback is that answers are not provided for quizzes and exercises so I cannot recommend it for individual study.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 1, 2019This is a great book for beginners in music. It focuses on solidifying rhythm and naming notes.

- Reviewed in the United States on May 28, 2010This book was one of the requirement when I started taking piano lessons. It came in quickly, in the nick of time, actually. In appearance the book was fresh and clean, almost a shame to write in! A very good book for anyone just starting, or, in my case, going back to officially learn what I've unofficially picked up over my 10+ years of playing! Very highly recommend it, you can't go wrong.
