A woman scorned. A man betrayed . When their paths collide, can love save the day, or be their downfall?

Thalia Renier had lost her head. That was the only possible explanation for the reformist lady’s involvement with the Murderous Marquess. But when her sister eloped with a known rake, Thalia is desperate to save her from a ruinous marriage, even if it means risking her own reputation—and her heart—at the hands of the brooding marquess.

William Radcliffe, the Marquess of Ashford is a man haunted by betrayal. For years, the widower marquess has spurned London’s polite society, taking refuge in the sun-soaked hills of Tuscany to pursue his true passion—sculpting. When word reaches him that his younger brother is on the verge of making a disastrous marital decision, Ashford will do anything to stop the marriage, including joining forces with a delectable muse whose beauty and fire chisels away at the ice encasing his heart.

When Thalia discovers his cold exterior hides an artist's soul, falling for him is inevitable, but overcoming her own insecurities to trust his love will prove her biggest challenge. Can Ashford let go of his bitter past to embrace his love for Thalia, or will he let old ghosts destroy their future?

I grew up reading tales of high adventure on distant lands and bygone eras. From Sir Walter Scott's Ivanhoe, to The Count of Montecristo and the works of Jules Verne. With detective novels from the likes of Agatha Christie and Arthur Conan Doyle added for variety. One day, when I was eighteen, I read my first historical romance novel, and got addicted to the genre. I realized then that what drew me the most was the love story between two people. The falling in love, the growing desire, the drama, the yearning, the passion.

I couldn’t get enough of the Regency novels, with their Lords and Ladies. That world, full of beautiful gowns, balls, chivalrous gentlemen, carriages, and manors, held the magic of a fairytale.

After two decades of reading, the yearning to tell my own stories made me turn to self publishing to bring my novels to the hands of other voracious romance readers.

My biggest hope is to gift others with the same feeling romance has brought to my life: hours of enjoyment and happiness lost in another world between the pages of a book.

Self confidence is Sexy!!

Self confidence is Sexy!!
First off this is part of a novella project called Curves and Cravats and highlights “curvy” or plus size heroines. And as a curvy sometimes plus size reader I love this concept so thank you to whomever pulled all the authors involved !!I also like the fact that so far all of the novellas are available on Kindle Unlimited for those that subscribe. Now for my review of Ms Glenn’s contribution: The Marquess and His Muse. This was a delightful sexy novella and with most steamy novellas you have to like instalust as the author really needs to get there fast and this novella doesn’t disappoint. But there is still room for a nice love story. Thalia (god, I love that name) is a widow and her marriage sucked. It also sounds like when she was having her “seasons” she was over looked by the men of the ton because they only saw her as a frumpy overweight woman and all this has lead to some serious insecurities and self hate (as far as her body is concerned). But during a rush to keep her younger sister from making an elopement mistake she encounters Liam, the Marquess of Ashford. Liam has his own demons and trauma in his marriage and widowerhood but has been abroad studying sculpture in Italy and has just returned to hear his brother has eloped. Together Thalia and Liam set off to find the young couple. Liam, being an artist sees Thalia’s body not as ugly , but as beautiful curves full of lovely shapes and instant wants to sculpt her (as well as other things). Thalia as a neglected widow is game for a sexual encounter and actually gets a sexual awakening and through the eyes of Liam starts to gain self confidence. There is a few angsty scenes thrown in to make it interesting. All and all a delightful short read and one that I would have also enjoyed as a full length novel.

The Marquess and His Muse is the third book in the multi-author series Curves & Cravats that features curvy heroines. This was another new to me author and it won’t be the last work of hers that I read.

Both Liam and Thalia have been widowed and neither had successful first marriages nor want to marry again. Liam has spent the last five years in Italy perfecting his sculpture skills but also suffers from an undeserved reputation from his first marriage.

I really enjoyed this fast paced story and even with an instalust attraction I felt the MC had a connection and were well developed. I loved that the hero out of his mind over the heroine’s curves and beauty. I enjoyed the artist and muse dynamic as well as the way the author kept the heroines curviness as a main focus. She had vulnerabilities surrounding this but wasn’t define by them and had confidence. However her journey was about embracing the power her figure has and being more comfortable in it intimately. I really liked how she stood her ground and valued herself in the latter half of the book.

I only wished there was more time to explore the resolution for what it took to get there and also thought the switch from being opposed to marriage to wanting to get married was abrupt. With a shorter page count (150 pages) and since the rest of the story was well developed, I only deducted half a star.

This story was hot and steamy with four detailed encounters plus another one from the epilogue available via newsletter signup.

This is my first book by Lavinia Glen and boy oh boy, I certainly won’t be my last. Romance and passion are front and foremost between Thalia and Liam. The quick page turner story had me captivated from the beginning. Before long I finished the book hoping for more. To my delight, there is an extended epilogue but it still wasn’t enough. I didn’t want their story to end! I was ready to devour more! That’s a great sign of appreciation to the author.

    Should I read in order?
I believe this is a standalone.

    Basic plot:
An eloping couple on the run brings Thalia and the Murderous Marquess together.

Give this a try if you want:
    - Victorian – 1867
    - Marquess hero
    - teaming up – the hero and heroine work together to find the heroine’s sister and hero’s brother who have run away together to elope
    - sculptor hero
    - size difference – heroine is tall but hero ‘dwarfs’ her
    - widow heroine
    - widower hero
    - plus size heroine
    - hero has a sweet tooth and feeds the heroine dessert
    - well-endowed hero
    - you’re okay with a bit of a possessive hero that can be a tad jerky
    - higher steam – 4 full scenes within a shorter page count

    My thoughts:
Oh I loved this novel! I have tried a few by Glen, but I think this one is my favorite.

I loved the working toward a goal that Thalia and William had in the beginning. There’s a bit of instalust at play here (short novel) and I loved them being together on a road trip (especially on a train!). William can definitely be a bit unpleasant towards the end, but the heroine’s in her books hold them accountable and Thalia was no different. She takes him immediately to task and stands up for herself and I enjoyed William having to realize his wrongs.

I also liked that there was more details about Thalia’s body image and how she is a touch self conscious. It wasn’t overdone at all - but I have read quite a few ‘full figured’ historical romance heroines and in so many of them it’s only a quick mention here or there and it’s very easy to forget there’s any body diversity in the character. So I really loved that aspect to it.

The author not sharing the epilogue unless you join her mailing list is b.s. I won't be reading this author again.

When I red this story, I wanted to get past all the sexual content to get to the love story. The love story was beautiful, I just wish I didn’t have to work so hard to find it. Good read.
