Grief Day by Day: Simple Practices and Daily Guidance for Living with Loss Audible Audiobook – Unabridged

4.6 4.6 out of 5 stars 2,296 ratings

Grief Day by Day offers supportive readings and exercises to help you move through life after loss, one day at a time.

Grief is complex. It is ever changing and may come to us differently on any given day. Grief Day by Day offers reflections and practices that address the day-to-day feelings that accompany the ever changing process of grief.

In Grief Day by Day, Jan Warner draws on her own extensive experience and the experiences of the 2 million followers on her Grief Speaks Out Facebook page to offer hope in its most practical form. This audiobook does not look to offer a solution to grief. Rather, it provides supportive, useful guidance to help you create a life in which peace, and even gratitude, can coexist with your grief.

There is no “right way” to grieve, and there is no right way to use this book. Whether you follow it word by word, or select that which seems most relevant to you at the moment, how you use this audiobook is less important than why you are using it. You’re using this audiobook because you have chosen to honor your experience, to make a home for your grief, and to find a new way of living on the bridge between loss and life.

This book is a wonderful book and it helps you understand grief better & the stages of grief as well. I feel like this book is written for people whom have never grieved before and don’t understand it and the flow that goes with it sort of speak. The author is truly amazing. The quotes in this book are not just beautiful but also very intensified with deep feeling. I had a hard time picking up this book for the first time when I first got it. I didn’t know where to begin and what to do. So I left it alone & then more so recently I started reading it which better helped me understand a lot more than I do and has helped me as a person too.Their are questions at the end of each chapter and some I did and others I had to skip because it hurt to much. But they are very well thought out questions and it’s also there to help you understand more as well as to where you are and to help you too. It’s truly inspiring and I find it to be helpful.Thank you

I first came to know the author via her Grief Speaks out website in 2014, which then led me to her Facebook page. it was about 8 months after the death of my husband. I was just beginning to enter the steepest and most dangerous part of a journey that would test me in every way. I wrote to Jan, as so very many have, to tell her my story and what it meant to me to have her guidance, compassion, empathy and courage in that tumultuous time, where I often thought I was going quite insane and thought that no one understood completely. She gives those in sorrow a safe place to fearlessly speak their truth, to feel, deal and heal together; far beyond the well meaning platitudes that are de rigueur. As if that weren't enough of a contribution to provide solace to untold thousands, Jan also gave me and to so many, the gift of her friendship and her example of one who is determined to live an authentic life to it's fullest ~ in a way that celebrates all that is still true, pure and joyous, even in the midst of unspeakable sorrow. I will be ever in glad debt to her and look forward to sharing this long awaited book with all those that may benefit from it's courageous honesty. One can never truly know what manner of healing they may be bringing to another with just a word, a phrase or a willingness to listen. As we receive that gift, we are then compelled to do our part in turn for another when the time is right. Jan has begun a revolution of sorts ~ one that will ultimately change how society permits and accepts the full expression of a much needed, sacred inner process; an important rite of passage which each of us must one day become acquainted with.

I started reading this book after I lost my wife. It was an enormous support to me. So much written there was exactly as I felt. I always heard that time heals but after my loss I just couldn't believe that I can ever heal. Jan Warner put it very properly: you never completely overcome the loss, you just learn to live with it. You learn to live with the thought that you will never see and talk with the person you loved and this thought will lie in the corner of your mind. Occasionally, while running your errands, you will think this thought with a quite sadness but from time to time this thought will turn to a knife piercing your whole soul and you cry. And then this thought becomes again a quite sadness until the next time. I learnt from this book that you shouldn't see this process as something wrong but as a prove that you had something wonderful in your life: a great love that will stay with you till your last day. I started reading this book shortly after the funeral and read it very slowly: 2 - 3 pages a day. For me this was a proper pace to absorb it. Great book.

This book has become my favorite resource over the past year as I have had to navigate the grief of losing my mother. When I began reading it, I immediately felt understood in my pain and it helped me put words to some of my complex feelings. I read it a lot at first, and now I just pick it up when I feel the shadows of sadness creep in. It’s full of inspiration well organized by topic, with insight into meaningful quotes and some helpful practices to assist with processing grief.

This is such a great book. It was given to me by a friend and so I bought it for my friend. I call it the grief bible. I didn’t need a “spiritual” book with Bible verses that give pat answers. This book has spiritual components but it’s real and raw

5.0 out of 5 stars Hilfreicher Begleiter für jeden Tag
Reviewed in Germany on April 25, 2023

5.0 out of 5 stars A must for anyone who is grieving
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on October 21, 2018
When I lost my father four years ago the onset of grief felt like being hit by a ten ton truck. The agony was intense. I really wish that “Grief Day by Day” had been available then to help me, bit by bit, to cope with it all.

Grief isn’t something that we get over but rather we learn to build our life around it. For this reason I will always have this book close at hand to dip in to for some solace when I need it.

Thank you Jan Warner for this beautifully compiled collection of pertinent quotes and your own wise and comforting words. Reading this book is like applying a soothing balm to a wound. I believe that thousands of peoples’ grief journey will be made easier because of you.

1.0 out of 5 stars Bit Disjointed
Reviewed in Australia on September 29, 2024
It is disjointed. The book does not flow. I would have preferred something that relates to loss and what happens when someone you are close to dies the confused feelings, your attachment to them, making new memories, how to process the grief. This does not have that in it. It has lots of quotes from different people. It does cover all different experiences that you have when you are grieving through all the quotes and meditations. But I wanted something clear and practical like when you have uncontrollable pain at the loss of that person, breath into the pain and see that person in your minds eye and connect with them tell them how you feel let all the feelings surface while you look into your loved ones eyes - something like that. You know how to manage what you are going through. Or the numbness - journal how numb you feel breath into the numbness and accept you feel that way. But in this book the quotes disjoint it, it was not helpful to me to process the loss and grief I feel at losing my mother after caring for her for years.
