About this item

  • TRANSFORM YOUR ART: While other paint brush sets for adults claim to serve all media, the one-fits-all approach doesn't work in art. These brushes are specifically designed for water-based media with all you need for watercolor, gouache, ink and acrylic paint - whether you are a beginner, art student or professional artist.
  • YOUR WATERCOLOR PAINT BRUSH SET SEARCH ENDS HERE: It's easy to get lost in the water color paint brushes features, especially for beginners. This set offers the perfect variety of brush sizes and shapes you'll ever need, with short ergonomic handles to paint longer, with high control and no hand fatigue: Rigger 2, Round 8,10, Flat 8, ¾”, Cat’s Tongue ¾”.
  • FAUX SQUIRREL SYNTHETIC HAIR (VEGAN): The perfect balance between squirrel (soft) and kolinsky sable (firm). The finest Japanese quality hair of these water color brushes allows enough softness for blending yet ensures snap, spring and point over time. They have high water and pigment absorption, and are easy to clean, too!
  • NO MORE RUINED PAINTINGS: Handmade with care, durable and resistant: you won't experience hair shedding, loose ferrules or lost shape overtime. Follow our (bonus!) brush care guide explaining the first wash process and how to make your professional watercolor brushes last longer.
  • BEAUTIFUL, PRACTICAL, CONVENIENT: This travel watercolor brush set comes in a compact PVC waterproof case for ease of storage and safety of transportation. Perfect for travelling, painting on the go (en-plein-air) and as a paint brush gift set.

Great Set of Paintbrushes for Artists Upgrading
Design: Design-wise these brushes are very pretty! They definitely would make a great gift for an artist. I love how sleek the brushes look, and they remind me of higher-grade paintbrushes. The faux metal finish is quite nice, almost reminds me of those higher-end inking pens. Performance: I’ve previously worked with very cheap brushes, and it’s such an upgrade to be using these brushes. While I adore my $6 Aliexpress brushes, one of my biggest gripes with cheap brushes is the strands sticking out, and falling out at random times. If retractable makeup brushes already exist, I’m sure several paintbrushes out there do that too. That being said I like the design of these travel brushes. The whole gimmick of this brush is that’s portable, and you assemble it when you are ready to use it. The brushes are designed where the head is stored in the base, and you pull it out and stick it on top, and it securely adheres to the base. I haven’t personally tried an art brush like this before, so I found the design quite innovative. Plus the case it came in was so nice and sturdy.Brushes: So let’s move on to the actual performance and feel of these brushes. If you’re like me and have previously worked with cheaper brushes, these will feel so much nicer than the brushes you have worked with before. The hairs are thick, sturdy, softer, and plush, and the individual strands stay in place. All of these characteristics of the brush allow you to be able to draw more precise lines. Let’s be clear, it’s not impossible with the cheaper brushes to make precise lines. You totally can, and I have in the past. But I’d waste a lot of time, having to constantly wet my brushes to make sure the strands didn’t fray, and I’d still get some stray fanning. It is so nice to not have to worry about that, and just focus on my lines. Personally, for me, it would be difficult to go back to cheaper brushes after trying nicer brushes, and I feel like my upgrade of brushes is certainly going to be in the midrange. Here are my impressions of each individual brush: Round 4: Round 4 is the most versatile on how washed out and opaque you can make the lines. It’s a very pointed brush that allows you to make precise lines. I found myself gravitating towards this brush.Round 1: I absolutely adore this brush. I like making very bold lines, and having a thin brush is important for changing the line weight as I draw. My watercolor pad is pretty tiny, and I prefer working with thinner brushes/ I have to say of all the brushes, Round 1 was certainly my favorite brush! I loved how thin and precise the lines were while painting. The brush reminded me of calligraphy brushes/g-pens, with its capability to make thin and wide lines. It is certainly my most used brush.8 Filbert: The Filbert 8 unsurprisingly is capable of filling big areas on the paper. The brush isn’t the most opaque and is a lot more washed it. I used Filbert to fill out the color for the background. I do wish there was a bigger brush included in the set because it would make filling out backgrounds so much quicker.6 Flat: The flat brush gives you the most opaque color and is ideal for filling color. I also liked how thin you could make the lines. If you like packing pigment, the 6 Flat would be the ideal brush.Price: Compared to other paintbrushes in this category, this seems to be a mid-range price. These types of paintbrushes seem to go anywhere between $10-56. It was slightly pricier than some other paintbrush sets. But I liked the quality of the paintbrushes, so I’m not too upset.Overall Thoughts: I adore this set! It’s a great upgrade from my cheaper brushes, and it’s a nice-looking set, plus it’s tiny enough to store in a purse, backpack, or drawer. It would make a nice gift for an artist! I certainly love playing with the brushes, and will continue to do so! I'm very happy with this set!

For me, making educated choices when purchasing art supplies relies heavily on reputation, so I think it would be useful to mention first and foremost that these brushes are comparable in price and quality to mid-range options offered by more well-established paintbrush manufacturers such as Princeton and Windsor & Newton. What I mean by this is that they are a safe bet from an up and coming brand, and not so much a gamble like so many unfamiliar art supply brands available on Amazon. I've tested these brushes in several wet mediums: watercolor/gouache, and fluid acrylic. They even work well for heavy-body acrylic! What stands out the most for me is their load capacity. These brushes can soak up a surprising amount of water or paint, which is perfect for long, consistent and bold brushwork. In watercolor this translates to beautiful washes and seamless wet on wet technique. In gouache, this load capacity makes it possible to make rich, bold and opaque strokes well over 15" long, assuming you use a quality brand of paint with a rich pigment load. They are most well suited for very wet mediums, however, for certain applications they also perform very well with acrylics. When using them with acrylics, be sure to reserve them for the wettest of techniques: glazes, watery wet on wet blending, or graphic-like shapes. Certain techniques used by acrylic painters such as dry-brushing or scumbling would damage the soft, synthetic bristles of these brushes, however, the set overall makes a good addition to any painter's collection. Just be careful to not let any acrylic paint dry in the ferrule: this is probably the leading cause of death for paintbrushes, especially synthetic ones. Now about the brushes themselves: the design is simple and elegant. The set includes two rounds, two flats, one rigger (liner brush) and a "cat's tongue" brush, which is essentially a pointed filbert. The brush handles themselves are actually considerably longer than most other brushes sold as "short handle", which is actually great. This extra length allows you to hold the brushes in other ways besides how you'd hold a pen, which is a bad habit many beginners struggle to shake. The bristles are soft enough to allow paint to flow with minimal "streakyness" while at the same time being stiff enough to maintain a good "spring", which helps keep an expressive control of your brushwork, and is an especially important quality in riggers. All in all: ZenART Black Tulip watercolor brushes are a great beginner's set for the aspiring watercolor artist, and a good addition to an acrylic painter's set for certain techniques.

I recently had the pleasure of using the set of 4 travel painting watercolor brushes, and I must say, they exceeded my expectations. This thoughtfully curated set includes four essential brushes that cater to various artistic needs. What sets this set apart is its travel-friendly design. The brushes come in a compact and sturdy carrying case, ensuring that they remain protected and organized. The case easily fits into any art bag or backpack, making it convenient to bring along on outdoor painting sessions or while traveling. The brushes are well-secured within the case, preventing any damage or bristle distortion during transportation. In terms of quality, these brushes are exceptional.
