- Reviewed in the United States on September 14, 2024The paranormal and human councils have decided to blend together in order to keep the peace. This means three different leaders of the paranormal will be matched and mated to three different humans. Derek is the alpha leader of the Hellhounds. He selects Hollis. Hollis is a quiet virgin librarian. Hollis is terrified at first. But then Derek is a gentle, loving partner. But there is a hate group called HAP that want to keep humans and paranormal separated. This is a quick, sweet paranormal gay romance between a Hellhound and his sweet mate. It is part of a series so I highly recommend you read them in order.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 21, 2024I enjoyed this quick well written book. The characters were different and so was the situation for mating, but it was refreshing to read something different. There wasn't that deep abiding mate love; I'd say it was more of a deep caring which means you don't all the emotional feels, but a feeling of having read a good story.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 9, 2024I enjoyed this story so much. Derek is the Hellhound Alpha and is convinced to enter into an arranged marriage with a human, Hollis, in order to help human/paranormal relationships.
While they are getting settled into their relationship and marriage, they hav ed to deal with Hollis's family and bad people who are out to destroy them. The best part of the story is how sweet, gentle and protective Derek is towards Hollis who is cute, naive and inexperienced. It was fun reading how they go from strangers to mates who are so grateful for each other.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 10, 2023Very good intro to a new world of stories but way too short. Good characters, start of a good plot and hints of an interesting world. Due to short length nothing fleshed out or resolved. Would’ve liked a lot more world building.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 24, 2024Quick, awesome read. This is exactly what I was looking for.
Hollis and Derek are perfect for each other, but it doesn’t seem like the other mate pairs got off that easy. Will see what happens in their books.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 14, 2023This was an interesting pnr, mm novella. It includes arranged mates, who are quickly happy with the arrangement, and a crazy group who has it out for the paranormal. There's not a lot of background or world building, but I didn't feel I missed all of the extra words that would've made this full length. It's a nice break from reality with a few hot, smexy times.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 22, 2024Short, sweet, and with a touch of spice. Gives touch him and die vibes, as well as love at first sniff. Going to read more by this author now.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 13, 2025I really wish Goodreads and Amazon allowed for ½ stars. I give this 3.5 rounded up.
I thought this story was very entertaining and I really liked Hollis, Derek and the cast of paranormal characters. While I found the storyline to be a good one, my problem is that this was too short to properly develop, well, just about everything. Derek’s and Hollis’ rushed relationship is wrapped up, for the most part, but we are still left with some opened ended issues such as Hollis’ police commisioner uncle, Neal, the hate group, HAP, and the fate of the other human/paranormal pairs (which are actually the next two books).
Oh, and I thought is was cute, but odd, that Kerak, the Demon King, actually calls Derek on his cell phone!

5.0 out of 5 stars just wish it was longer
This is a very quick read and I didn't pay enough attention to see that it was listed as a novella. The world-building can be seen though and the writing is excellent. I’m sure the rest of the series will be excellent as well - but I was really drawn in by the hellhound mc so I have to admit I’m disappointed this book was so short. That will teach me to thoroughly read the description.
In this short story though you will fall for Derek and Hollis and the chemistry between them. It had that feeling of protectiveness that you want from a hellhound for sure. I look forward to seeing more of these mc's in the next books.

5.0 out of 5 stars PNR with humour
Hellhounds are supposed to be scary, but to the human he’s forced into being mated with, he’s an adorable puppy. A short book, romantic and steamy and a few funny moments. I need to read the next 2 books.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sweet, short read!
This was a short, sweet read and exactly what I needed to get out of my reading slump. Thoroughly enjoyed it, and I look forward to reading Cane and Jacob's story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great start
I loved Derek and Hollis! The only kind of complaint I have ist that the story could have been longer because they were such a cute couple. The story was very well written and I'm glad I can start the next one right away. I love books by this author!

4.0 out of 5 stars A good opener
A short novella that serves as both a quick story about one relationship and an opener for this series.
Hollis and Derek are just one couple of an initiative to make human/paranormal relations better by mating the top paranormals with humans. Derek and Hollis hit it off pretty well, attracted to each other and truly wanting to make it work. Hollis has some family problems but Derek is very protective, quickly working to keep him safe.
As a novella this feels like just the opener of their relationship. Moving from introduction to the getting to know each other, it feels like they are just starting to settle into it when the book ends. The over arching story is also just being introduced and will clearly carry on. The immediate action is settled at the end, no cliffhangers, but the problems facing paranormals and humans are clearly just beginning. Hopefully as the series continues more will be shown of all the couples, as there is still more story there to tell, along with telling about what is going on in the world around. Definitely a good start with plenty of interesting characters introduced and a conflict that will take time to sort out.
