Product Description

The new Gen 2 YakGear outriggers help you feel safe and secure in your kayak or canoe by utilizing the stabilizing effects of the re-designed floats. Stability while paddling is a problem for some paddlers. Whether you are standing to sight cast at fish, traversing through choppy waters, or paddling with the kids, the YakGear Outrigger system provides a more comfortable paddling experience. The YakGear Outriggers provide an easy to install safety net for everything from rocking back and forth to toppling into the water. This set comes with (2) outriggers, one for the port and one for the starboard side of your watercraft. The adjustable outrigger arms are 30 inches long and will provide a float base roughly 22 inches from the port and starboard side of the boat. The outriggers are attached by using a RAILBLAZA StarPort base mounted to the boat. The outriggers can be removed at any time making your watercraft easy to transport, leaving only the RAILBLAZA base. The adjustable outrigger arms can be raised independently if you are getting close to a dock or other obstruction. Installation placement of the outriggers may be mounted in the front or rear of your watercraft. The included floats have pre-installed threading (1/4 x 20 brass insert) to mount a RAILBLAZA StarPort HD (included) directly to the float, which is used to connect to the outrigger arms; and a RAILBLAZA MiniPort base (not included) on your float, giving you the ability to mount another RAILBLAZA StarPort accessory of your choice (amazing camera angles using the Railblaza Camera Kit or Camera Adaptor). These outriggers can attach to a canoe by using a piece of Hardie board (not included). These outriggers are best for total weights under 350 pounds. As always, this complete kit comes with all stainless steel installation hardware, installation instructions, and rigging tips from YakGear.

I think any outriggers, be them cheap inflatable or these, are going to give roughly the same stability so I feel this high price boils down to high quality parts and features that will hold up in salt, unobtrusive and well designed with lots of ease of use features and follows the sleek nature of a kayak. If a larger 6 bolt base was available it would be five stars. I would absolutely buy again.Pros: Even though they’re expensive, I feel the quality of the parts as well as fit and finish warrant it. I was skeptical but they are well thought out and executed so now that I have them it’s not an inflated price imo. For example, the insides of the tubes are painted which is a well thought out detail and they should handle salt for a long time.Superb running stability on my Pelican catch 100. They handled 1-2’ waves well enough that I’m now more comfortable going out on rougher days which gives me a lot more chances to go out and enjoy. I didn’t notice any sign of drag, my speeds remained the same as before installing.Over joyed with standing stability, I was able to sidearm cast and lean over the edge all while reaching down adjusting the trolling motor speed/direction, all of which could get sketchy sitting down without these.I appreciate the low profile more than I thought, these are barely noticeable with a clear view what’s in front of you (if you plan to mount them forward) and they’re not distracting at all. They look and feel like a natural extension of the kayakThe mounts are very sturdy and convenient which I’m sure was a large part of the cost as Railblaza isn’t cheap but they were the right choice here. It’s basically one button to remove them yet it is very secure. Simple to install, just take your time, directions are clear english with good attention to detail yet easy to follow.Cons: I feel they should offer larger mounts with 6 screws to give more surface area attached to the plastic so it doesn’t flex so much, either as an option or offer an adaptor. I don’t feel it’s going to rip through the plastic or anything but something I plan to address in future trips. It’s a high end product that lives up to its high end price

They do exactly what they're supposed to. They make the kayak much more stable.

My weight 305 pounds plus the weight of fishing gear, so I am about the weight limit capacity of my kayak which is 325 pounds; so my kayak felt very unstable and one time I tipped over in a springs.

Most of the time I go fishing to lakes full of alligators near Tallahassee, so I decided to try to improve the safety of my kaya installing the stabilizers, after a couple of days of research, I decided to buy the Yak gear ones, installed them in 30 minutes, and went fishing the next day.

Wow, what a change, my kayak feels now very stable and secure and I do not feel any difference in dragging.

I recommend this product 100%, very good quality and very easy to install, and very important also, 100 percent American made.

I installed these at the rear of my kayak since I started using it for fishing. Followed the directions and you do have to turn those screws a lot, when they get snug, stop. Works awesome, very stable, and easy to remove when loading in the truck. My buddy saw them and order one. Do put the kayak on a flat surface and take the time get them straight. And install was very easy.

Important to know that these outriggers will NOT prevent a kayak/ canoe from capsizing or tipping. They are no more than additional assistance in that prevention. Needed improvement to product is improved method to attach outriggers to watercraft. Rail Blaza's minimal ability for anything less than a 12 degree adjustment ids non existent and longevity of plastic devices are questionable. Sure, they can be replaced but why do I have to keep reinvesting in a product that should be a one time " end all" device?

I was having a hard time on my peddal drive kayak, trying to peddal and stopping from tipping over, I wasn't having fun. I bought these and they made ALL the difference, they are easy to install, just takes some time. Worth the money!

The product is great and works amazing (other then missing some screws), but YakGear Customer service is not great at all. When purchasing the product I paid for shipping, then the when the freight arrived I was charged for another shipping cost. No mention on the anywhere that there maybe additional shipping costs. The shipping company would not give me the product unless I paid the extra costs. YakGear did not answer any of my messages sent. I have called there number and left many messages and no call back. I had to get ahold of Amazon, their customer service was great and got me my product. Amazon Customer service could not even get a hold of Yakgear as well no how matter how many phone calls, emails and messages where sent no reply back at all.
