The Squirrel Manifesto Hardcover – Picture Book, November 20, 2018
Purchase options and add-ons
Financial habits form early. Children learn by observing a parent’s behavior and through their own experiences. That’s why it’s important to make sure your children are treating money the right way. From allowances and birthday money to cash they’ll one day earn babysitting or mowing lawns, The Squirrel Manifesto provides a platform to set your children on the path to a lifetime of fiscal responsibility.
Just as a squirrel gathers nuts to prepare for the winter—eating some now and storing some for later—kids can learn the value of money by spending some of their allowance now and saving the rest for later using animals as examples.

So, yes, some other commenters are right; there are a few words that will need to explained, starting with “manifesto”, but I don’t see them as overwhelming and it’s never too soon to introduce a few new words. Step forward, not backward. A suggestion for the authors/publishers; for future books please apply the marvelous writing skills in the story to the book description, too. The current one doesn’t do justice to a remarkable experience that inserts a life lesson in the most charming way. (This librarian loved the book.)
The illustrations are wonderful and very colorful and kept my grandchildren interested in the story. Bought 3 books already.
Thank you Ric and Jean Edelman for writing such a fantastic book.
One star down for the clunky poetry. The rhyming was fine, but the rhythm and meter of each phrase was off beat. Honestly I think this book would have worked better with straight prose instead of poetry. Or it could have been edited by a poet. Ymmv.
Fantastic book with a fantastic message, check it out.
