NEED A KICKSTART PROGRAM TO GET YOUR HEALTH BACK?

If you’ve ever attempted to get fit after 50, but felt discouraged along the way, that feeling can be downright disheartening. We all get stuck in those same old cycles; the ones that starts with renewed excitement, but get shaky in the middle, and then ends poorly. It’s a cycle you don’t want to get stuck in.

IT’S TIME TO END IT!

The authors of Strength Training are over 50 and write specifically for the 50+ crowd. They both found their way out of those frustrating cycles, and then became passionate about helping others do the same.

START AT HOME. This book gives you the option to start your workout routines at home with very little equipment or investment. Your body weight and a few weights are all you need to get started. Extra equipment likes resistance bands and stability ball can be added as you progress.

HIT THE LOCAL GYM. If you haven’t been to the gym in a while, the latter chapters in the book get you familiar with the machines in detail, so you don’t feel awkward on your first day. Chapter 7 breaks down the tried-and-true methods of using the equipment to get you on your way.

Here’s what you’ll find in the pages of STRENGTH TRAINING:

This informative book is EXACTLY what I've been searching for!
I have been working out over a year, with resistance machines but wanting to jump back into strength training with weights. Nervous to do so because arthritic knees. Your book informing me of the need to strengthen my knees, above babying them was the mental boost I needed. I appreciate the encouraging words. Made me realize it's a daily effort, of rewards and rests, with my workout plans, that will help me win this marathon of health.

I still work a regular job these days, but it's mainly to get myself in mental shape. This book is great for those who don't want to stop...because if you let yourself go, you'll find yourself losing all that you have built over decades working out at the gym.

    See ya at the gym!

    Easy read with great tips.

I already lift weights using exercises and techniques I learned 25 years ago. What I need is advice on how to protect and strengthen my creaky knees, unreliable ankle, catchy elbow, things many over 50 deal with and that I thought based on the title and description this book might offer, but no such luck. This book details why you should lift weights, citing information available for free from mainstream web sources, and shows the same old same old lifts and exercises. It's okay for an absolute beginner with no joint pain.

If you're over 50 and feeling it, this book has a LOT to offer. And not just good advice, but good advice backed up by a lot of experience and insight. It seems that most of us over-50's (and I've been there for quite a few years!) assume that our aches and pains, our need to hold onto railings while going up and down stairs and our muscles slowly losing strength is our destiny. With regular muscle stretching and strengthening, you could find that this simply isn't so.
What I like most about this book is that it makes a case, tells you why you should invest some time every day in becoming stronger and more fit and then goes on to suggest workouts of many types – from warm-up routines to using weights and then on to strength training for specific parts of your body (e.g., your back and your legs).
It offers an entry-level full-body workout and additional workouts that will likely take 20, 40 and 60 minutes. This includes specific moves – some as simple as swinging your arms or walking in place – and moves through exercises that are more challenging. It even includes suggestions on the supplies you should have on hand – such as an exercise mat and a water bottle. The book also suggests a number of active hobbies that might help you make your exercises more routine and more enjoyable.
It's easy to fall into believing that there's nothing you can do to reduce your body pain or become stronger and more confident about how far you can push yourself. Take the challenge! Listen to what the authors of this book have to tell you. You might just find your life gets a whole lot better!

If you have any knowledge or experience in weight lifting or body building this book is not for you. It is for the over 50 crowd that has not gotten off the couch in 20 years. The writers also recommend upright rows and other movements that could cause injuries even to experienced lifters. If you can lift more than a 5 pound dumbbell, don't waste your time reading this.
