Purchase options and add-ons
Many caregivers are also interested in introducing new sounds to their little readers. This book introduces simple Polish words with phonetic pronunciations. The first introduced word is “krasnoludek” [kross-no-LOO-deck], which means gnome in Polish.
Krasnoludek: a gnome tale is also a love letter to the woods and the winter season. This book would make a fun gift for both children and adults: Hanukkah, Winter Solstice, Advent, Christmas, anyone who loves gnomes, the outdoors, the winter season, has Polish heritage, and for those learning the Polish language.
For children ages 9 months to 6 years. And anyone who loves gnomes!

- Reviewed in the United States on December 2, 2023What a wonderful tale, beautifully illustrated! Aside from the story and pictures being great, I love the fact that it introduces words in Polish with pronunciation. My father was 100% Polish and although he spoke very little of it, it's something I have always wanted to learn. He passed away a year ago and I believe this book will be a stepping stone for myself and my children to finally start to learn my native language. He will be so proud, even if he sees this from heaven.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 11, 2023Our family is of Polish descent but we don’t speak Polish in the home (one parent can speak fairly well, one knows a few words) and seek out books like this to introduce our children to a little bit of Polish to appreciate that aspect of their heritage. They are particularly enamored of Szydagis’ cat book All Cats Speak Polish so I happily ordered this new one, which is timed well for the upcoming holiday season.
It’s more a vocabulary book than a story book, with sweet gnome scenes loosely connected into a story but the vocabulary is central not a plot.
Overall, a cute book and a nice addition to our stack of winter and Christmas reads for our family!

- Reviewed in the United States on November 12, 2023An absolutely lovely book about the simple beauty of a winter day (through the eyes of a delightful gnome!) for kids and grown-ups alike, just in time for the holidays. True to form, the author once again beautifully weaves in illustrative Polish translations of key words to further illuminate her narrative. Highly recommend!

- Reviewed in the United States on November 15, 2023My 2 1/2 year old loves this book, and I do too! She loves pointing out the gnome, and playing peeka-boo with him. And it's great that she is learning Polish words. I have a few other books from this author/illustrator. Big fans!
- Reviewed in the United States on November 10, 2023I bought it as a gift and it is BEYOND CUTE. Very sweet book. And the Polish words are also written out phonetically, like in ALL CATS SPEAK POLISH. Very fun and enjoyable.
