- Reviewed in the United States on March 18, 2025What a dream this was to spend. I started with a 5 oz super bulky yarn, just to test it right out of the gate and I am extremely impressed. It gave me a great size cake, tight and uniform. It stuck to the counter very well. The adjustable screw on it has a great grip and worked perfect for polished granite with minimal overhang. The upright to hold the yarn in place feels strong and it didn't move around through winding an entire skein. Perhaps best of all though, is absolutely no assembly required. It works out of the box and then it fits right back into the box it came from. Highly recommend

I love this purchase! There's a bit of a learning curve. Some yarn requires a slower speed, others you can go fairly quickly. Just need to maintain consistent tension, but once you get the hang of it. Its so much fun, and so satisfying! The end result is a good, tight skein. Makes for easy flow with any crochet project. Its simple but a mighty little tool, and sturdy. Money well spent!

- Reviewed in the United States on October 29, 2024This yarn winder is perfect. I wanted something affordable that would do the job of winding up all my scraps. Mostly, so I could use a yarn bowl and store my yarn more easily. This product did that, and it did it fast! Wasn't much noise either. It was very easy to assemble and it fit well onto my dining table. The only thing I would change, it the yarn guide. I wish it was a TINY bit smaller in width. The one it comes with is fine, but it does leave quite a gap in the middle of the cakes. If it was maybe 3/4 of its original size, that would be perfect. Otherwise, great product!

- Reviewed in the United States on April 8, 2025As someone who crochets regularly, I never realized how much I needed a yarn winder until I used this one. The UrbAmerican Yarn Winder really lives up to its product description—simple installation, hand-operated, and built with enough durability to handle both fine and bulky yarns with ease.
Setup took less than a minute, and I appreciated that it felt intuitive and stable right out of the box. The clamp held firm on my desk without wobbling, which is something I’ve had issues with on flimsier winders in the past. The size is compact enough to store easily, but it still winds a good amount of yarn per cake.
One of the biggest wins here? The low noise level. I expected some mechanical squeaks, but this winder operates with a gentle hum that won't disturb your favorite podcast or audiobook. The quality of materials is better than expected for the price—lightweight, and the crank action is smooth and consistent.
If you’re a fiber artist, this little tool is more than just helpful—it adds joy and efficiency to the process. Whether you’re organizing leftover skeins or prepping thrifted yarn for storage, this is one of those ideas that sounds optional until you try it… then you wonder how you ever worked without it!
- Reviewed in the United States on March 31, 2025I have used this thing like crazy. Easy to assemble and very stable. Practical. The size is good for amigurumi cakes or small projects. As far as making a larger skein into a cake you would need a larger yarn spinner. I love it
- Reviewed in the United States on March 8, 2025This is a great yarn winder. It's easy to attach to a tabletop. It's very quiet and makes a nice yarn cake. I have used it for both 3 weight & 4 weight acrylic yarns without issue. I have also used it 4 weight 100% cotton yarn skeins. If you have a larger skeins, you will need to wind it into 2 separate cakes. I used a tighter tension & wound 6 oz into one cake.

Also, the product looked used when I got it. Lots of hair fuzz or residue on the post when I took it out the box (you’d think it would be fibers from yarn but it was definitely hair or something), and there are grease stains on the instruction paper.
