The Birth of Our New Baby is told through the eyes of a soon to be big sister who is a witness to (and so excited about) her mama's pregnancy and home birth. With fun, bright, colorful illustrations, this book is mindful of including the soon to be big sister throughout her mama's pregnancy, labor, and birth experience to really make the journey feel like a family oriented experience. There are a few interactive bonus pages in the back of the book that include:- Ways to promote bonding between the pregnancy and soon to be sibling, as well as ways to prepare the soon to be sibling to be present at the birth of the new baby.- Identifying the different parts of mama's growing womb, including the baby in it.- A page to rip out and color!- A page with different objects that are to be cut out and used for pretend and imaginative role play in conjunction with the page you and your child colored!- A couple pages where your child can tell about the birth experience through their eyes! Perfect for a memorabilia from the birth! This book is great for all ages!

Great book
My 2 year old has been living this book since we first found out we were expecting. She’s 2.5 now and she’s very ready to be there at our upcoming birth. The book shows mom having a midwife and a doula, laboring, birthing baby in the birth pool, the placenta, the newborn exam, and even bedsharing. It’s perfect.

I’d give it 6 stars if I could. It’s the perfect companion for the family who is welcoming a new baby into the comfort and safety of their home, in a way that includes the older sibling(s). Throughout the book, the daughter is actively involved in her mother’s birth prep and labor process, ultimately ending in a beautiful family-centered, mother-led water birth. It builds context within which birth should be understood - it is exciting and normal and safe. The illustrations of the mom breastfeeding peacefully in the bed with a tray of food and tea that her support team brought to her is the cherry on top, showing her daughter that *this* is what postpartum support looks like: serving the mother so she can bond with Baby and serve her own body with rest. 11/10 recommend!

My older kids absolutely love this book and I know it has contributed to their excitement for our next baby. It talks about everything home birth including, doula, midwife, measuring and listening to baby’s heartbeat, the emotions mama goes through, waiting at the end of pregnancy for labor, preparing the birth space, waterbirth, and child involvement with every step of the way!

As a birth worker and a home birth mama myself this book is perfect for talking about pregnancy and home birth with kids. It has excellent pictures in it that aren’t too much for kids and equally engaging enough. It is descriptive and uplifting and truly a gem to add to your library. Highly recommend this to anyone having a home birth with older siblings and for birth workers to keep in their library.

We LOVE this book. Accurately describes birth in a way that my toddler can understand. She has it completely memorized and loves to talk about what’s going to happen when “her baby” comes. 💜

I really like the pages at the end of the book. The only reason I'm returning this book is because it's incredibly similar to another book we already have, and I don't want 2 similar books.
