About the author
Lisa Marie Rice is eternally 30 years old and will never age. She is tall and willowy and beautiful. Men drop at her feet like ripe pears. She has won every major book prize in the world. She is a black belt with advanced degrees in archaeology, nuclear physics, and Tibetan literature. She is a concert pianist. Did I mention her Nobel Prize? Of course, Lisa Marie Rice is a virtual woman and exists only at the keyboard when writing romantic suspense. She disappears when the monitor winks off.

Emma was one of the NSA brainiacs with Hope and Felicity; therefore, having her so spaced out by Raul's masculinity was not working for me. As for Raul, if the author mentioned once, she mentioned ten or twenty times that he was an ex-Seal, now employed by ASI, with superior situational awareness and completely lethal. So why did he seem totally fogged by lust even before he meets Emma in the flesh?
I liked Emma's devotion to her friend Toby, her determination to find him and the fact that she finally got her brain going after she and Raul got had sex. Toby's analysis of the oncoming financial storm, Emma's NSA history and Jacob Black all combined to save the day. There was even a flash at that end to Riley that has me salivating for more.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

These two first books are virtually identical. Different names, physically different main characters, but the plots are cookie-cutter. What a rip-off paying full price for these books!
The stories aren't even that interesting. Lisa Marie Rice must have had some kind of X number of books contract, because these were so mediocre. I was expecting more of the adrenalin driven story lines. The super hot sex scenes were non-existent, and were IDENTICAL in both books. Same wording, same everything. I am suspicious LMR had someone else ghost-write these books for her.
So disappointed. I'm not sure if I'm even going to bother with the 3rd book. I might try to return it.
I have books #4 and 5 on my list to get, but I will probably skip buying them completely.

That said, what saves the book from being an almost duplicate of the previous books is the issues that the characters must resolve which requires the protagonists' unique talents backed the growing strength of ASI. Raul and Emma are a dynamic duo!
Another shift in this book from the Men of Midnight series is the focus on Emma's sexuality. Usually the men are completely distracted by their mates until her safety becomes questionable, at which point they become hyper focused. While that is still the case, Emma is also unapologetically interested and distracted in Raul. I liked that honesty because women can be just as attracted to men and want to connect physically.
Overall this was a fun read. As I said, it is exactly what you'd expect from Lisa Marie Rice.
This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.
