Product Description

The Gimbal Ratchet design allows the ratchet head to rotate on 2 planes, providing easier access for the end user. The 72-tooth ratcheting mechanism provides a 5 swing arc and allows technicians to spin fasteners on and off in hard-to-reach areas where its difficult to use a standard ratchet. Like other GearWrench Ratchets, the Gimbal Ratchet exceeds ASME performance requirements. The anodized aluminum finish offers protection and makes the ratchet easy to clean.

GearWrench produced the original five-degree ratcheting wrench in 1996 and quickly became a go-to brand for professional automotive technicians. The innovation didn’t stop there. Year after year, the GearWrench brand continues to expand its line—in ratcheting tools and beyond—to help automotive and industrial technicians get their jobs done faster and easier.

cool tool its my favorite hand wrench for 1/4" sockets.Blue is the 1/4" red is the 3/8" (wish they made it in 1/2" too)I seriously doubt you could break by hand. Also both ratchets swivel with the socket on it.This has a extremely nice feel and smooth operation including switching directions. If a negative could be said it would be the sides should be knurled for maximum grip. This ratchet is not designed to be used with pliers but you could, then you should be using what we call "The right tool" a ratchet with a handle..

Like other GearWrench tools, this strikes you as a quality tool right away. Its simply a 3/8 ratchet without a handle. When you need it, its worth its weight in gold. If you have to drive a bit or socket in a very tight area and cannot fit even the smallest socket wrench in there, this can work to get it started. I was surprised with the amount of torque I could apply without a handle. You can always use this to get too those hard to reach areas and use a traditional socket to torque it also.

The only problem I had with this socket is the crappy packaging. They don't make it very intuitive to remove from the packaging. Do NOT try to unscrew the reverse lever thinking that is how you remove it. You simply have to force it out and will likely break the packaging in the process.

I got this for my on-bike tool kit. Along with a 1/4" socket to 1/4" hex adapter and a small set of bits it handles a wide array of on-bike problems in a compact form. I haven't had it for long, but so far it's been great. Will update if anything comes up.

My original ones had a nice rubber coating on them, which I did enjoy but these are clearly much more durable and better constructed plus they have a lifetime guarantee. The only other minor complaint I have is my old units had a much finer tooth to them which allowed for, very small turn movements. These have a course or tooth require a little more spin but are very nice.
