About the Author

Maureen Wright has written a number of popular picture books, including Sleep, Big Bear, Sneezy the Snowman (illustrated by Stephen Gilpin), Earth Day, Birthday! (illustrated by Violet Kim), and most recently, Barnyard Fun (illustrated by Paul Rátz de Tagyos). She lives with her family in Athens, Pennsylvania.

Amanda Haley graduated from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago with a B.F.A. degree in Painting and Drawing. She has illustrated greeting cards and many children’s books, including leveled readers and the popular title Snowzilla (written by Janet Larson). She lives with her husband and in the tidewater section of Virginia.

A fun story that was fun to read to classes I was working with as a substitute teacher the week of Groundhog Day. It was perfect for both Kindergarten and First Graders to whom I read it, I am sure it would work with Preschool age as well.

Its a cute story with wonderful bright pictures. I could not be more thrilled with my purchase and the book will have a long term place in my classroom library as I work towards my teaching degree.

Last year, my two year old son got a book Sneezy the Snowman for Christmas. Now, months later, we still have to read that at least twice a week. Because of how good that book is, and how much my son loves it, I bought this book by the same author. The great quality of writing, as well as great illustrations, continue with this book.

If your child likes to be read to, likes to look at the pictures and make up his own stories based on what he sees, then I highly recommend this book, as well as others by Maureen Wright.

Excellent read! The illustrations are fantastic as well. I was looking for a book that would relate the folklore behind groundhog day while providing a fun fictional story to use for ELA. It was perfect to use for reader response questions and prompts, sequencing, and fact vs fiction. My boys (1st grade) both liked the story a lot. The author has corresponding activity pages on her website that were fun for the boys too.
