Readers' Favorite Review
The Cathedral Murders by J.E. Morales is a captivating mystery set in Lima, Peru. The story follows Isabella Castle, a medical student completing her internship. After performing CPR on a dying man, she discovers a small black cross on the right side of his chest, leading her to question its significance. The narrative then shifts to Rome in May 1992, where Bishop Juan Carlos Silvestri realized his dream of priesthood when he met Father Josef Andriso and joined the Opus Dei Headquarters at The Church of Santa Maria. Through interrogation and investigation, Morales takes readers on an enthralling journey filled with suspense as the characters navigate a world plagued by terrorism. The novel expertly balances complex clinical terminology with a clear and concise overview of the mystery at its core. J.E. Morales tells a compelling and informative story that is rich in detail. The intellectual challenge of diagnosing an ill patient is a turning point in Isabella's career and signifies a remarkable achievement, or perhaps not. As suspicions mount with each untimely death, the puzzle begins to fall into place as Isabella seeks to uncover the truth. Despite the anguish, the author reminds readers there is always a solution within reach, even in the most challenging situations. The Cathedral Murders is a must-read for fans of mystery and suspense. Morales masterfully weaves a tale that uncovers the unthinkable and keeps readers on edge until the end.

"A remarkable historical thriller with a noir core, and a searing snapshot of Peruvian society. With its plot-driven structure, the novel is full of political intrigue and dark turns, and Morales does an excellent job of clarifying Peru's tumultuous history. Combining captivating mystery, dizzying political machinations, and a powerful cast of characters,
The Cathedral Murders is a masterclass in fusing together genre elements with a historical setting, asking profound moral questions that transcend time and place." Self-Publishing Review, ★★★★½

I like the book that brought back so many memories from medical school at a difficult time in Peru, very interesting how real fact got intertwined with fiction, really enjoyable to read...

From the initial couple chapters, it had my attention. I needed to know more about the characters and how they were all tied together, and most of all, who was behind the murders. Was like mashing together ER with DaVinci Code. The thoughts and behaviors of the main character, Isabella, resonated with me. I kept saying to myself “I really like this gal! We have some serious similarities and I bet we would be friends in real life”. I heard myself saying so many times “yes! Yes!!!! Question that!” Or “damn right for feeling that way!” I forced myself to slow down through the last couple chapters because it was all coming together and I was hungry to find out who was behind it all, and when the dust settled, all I wanted was another book. Like watching a series on tv that has a slow burn, pulling you in, and leaves you impatient for season 2 when the finale airs.

The plot was really good and keep my attention at all times; a real page-turner. Having myself been in the places and surroundings where the story takes place, and knowing about some the real-life characters featured in the book, the writer did an excellent job ! Maybe a second story will come in the future?

Such a fun read! An intellectually stimulating historic thriller with a relatable strong female character. Loved the music references from 80-90s, played like a soundtrack through the book. Last 30 pages couldn’t put the book down!

Surreal Story!!! Peru in the early 90s. Civil war, daily bombs, murders, chaos, hyperinflation, intrigue, power struggles, racism. And
you are a medical student doing your internship in the middle of all this uncertainty???!!!
Very sharply written, fast paced. Humane characters. Awesome read! Congratulations Dr Morales, I’m a fan 👊

The author did an amazing job describing th3 scenario where this plot occurred. He emphasized the dialogue over the narrative, which allows the reader to understand a bit more about the role of each one of the characters. The plot was an excellent one. I could not stop reading after the second half of the book.
Great job!!
