- Reviewed in the United States on June 9, 2024I recently had the pleasure of reading "Discipleship in Coaching: Creating Team Culture that Builds Christian Character" by Coach Dan Ellis. As a former player whom was coached by Coach Ellis, this book struck a chord with me..
Coach Ellis delves deeper into the world of coaching, going beyond the X's and O's of basketball and into the realm of character development. This book is a true gem for anyone looking to make a lasting impact on their players' lives, both on and off the court.
One of the key themes explored in this book is leadership. Coach Ellis emphasizes the importance of not just instructing players on the technical aspects of the game but also guiding them to become better individuals. He shares practical strategies and personal anecdotes that highlight the significance of mentorship and character building in coaching.
The author's passion for both basketball and faith is evident throughout the book. Coach Ellis seamlessly weaves together biblical principles with coaching strategies, providing a unique perspective on how to create a team culture that builds Christian character. His writing style is engaging and relatable, making it easy for readers to connect with his experiences.
I particularly appreciated the emphasis on teamwork and creating a positive team culture. Coach Ellis stresses the importance of fostering an environment where players feel valued, supported, and encouraged to grow both as athletes and as individuals. His insights on building trust, communication, and accountability within a team were eye-opening and will undoubtedly benefit any coach or leader.

- Reviewed in the United States on November 12, 2024This is a great resource for coaches who have a desire to use the game of basketball for more than just wins and trophies. As a Christian coach myself, I see wins and losses as less important then using the vehicle of sports to teach your players about how to live life in a way that is pleasing to God. This book gave many great insights and strategies to accomplish just that. Highly recommend.
